You have had schools basically banning most sorts of christmas celebrations because of fear of minority groups getting upset.
This was all bought about by government pressure and not by the minority groups themselves.
When minority groups were questioned, it revealed that most had not complained and felt embarresed becuase of it, as in the long run they felt that it did more damage to the relationship with the wider community, than enhance.
I work for a group of Franchised Auto Spares shops (similar basis to Halfords in UK). By the way I am not the owner just work for the shop on a permanent part time basis.
Every year we have Christmas, Easter, Fathers Day sales, plus whatever other excuse they can can come up with to have more.
This year when I see the catalogue come out at Christmas, I question my boss as to why if it was Christmas Sale, why no sign of any Santa's or any reference to Xmas.
He said to me that some of the Franchisee's (of non Aussie descent) had said that they do not celebrate christmas and did not want to enter into an aggreement into participating in any nationwide promotion of a christmas sale.
Hence our christmas sale was renamed a VIP Sale with no christmas mentions at all.
Sufice to say with all other competitors having huge christmas promotions , the response to our VIP sale was terrible.
Also one thing all the overpaid marketing Guru's failed to take into condsideration (and my boss to add), was that the company runs a VIP Card that gives 10% off the price of some normal priced items.
I said to him that if I saw that promotion advertised, my 1st thoughts were that the promotional items in the catalogue were only available to VIP Card holders and that normal VIP Card holders would then expect their 10% discount on the sale tems. That was exactly what happened.
We are now waiting to see what they do for the Easter Catalogue.
Why do governments not just let people get on with their own lives and decide for themselves what they want to do in life, what to read and watch in way of films and TV etc.
I think they would be suprised how well that would work, plus save countrys all over the world millions of dollars etc for uneeded employment of 1000's of public servants, that really do not fill a productive position in life and the workplace.
