I seem to remember either last Xmas time, or the one before, that an underage English girl was arrested in a BKK nightclub. Can't remember the outcome, but she was detained overnight. Think she was 17.
They certainly do check all patrons in BKK clubs, from time-to-time. Obviously not here, by the sound of things.

Lomu, I was there maybe two years ago when the police did a drug check. The bar manager had advance notice and very kindly notified a few key customers before it happened. (TIT) This was a Saturday night too. The police turned up the lights, turned off the music and blocked the exits. They did a skin swab and had a police trailer outside for chemical analysis. I was rather impressed with the technology.
We often go to the Hilton because it is the only bar in town with a dance floor. The bands have varied a lot over the years. A couple have been really excellent. (That reggae band a couple months back was top notch for their first set and then they sucked big time. Too bad! The only other down side is that the place is just crawling with bar girls who smoke while they are dancing. (My own opinion here with which many of you may differ.) I really want a smoke free bar with a live band ( reggae??) and a dance floor.

if you visit three nights in a row you will see the same people and hear the same music.

a good atmosphere there, but they need to do a little bit more with the music.
maybee a night Dj only, the a night Band domiance.
sometimes the Band comes in with shite music whene the DJ has the house rocking and VV..

What realy iritates me on the odd occasssion i now go there is the bar service

The amount of money they must lose while using the receipt and wait for the change method! On busy nights the bar is 4 deep with the majority waiting for their change!!
Why they dont revert to a cash system at the bar amazes me! I know they probably dont trust their staff and are wary of skiming, but the amount they lose in sales would outweigh the best skimmer by a mile!!!
Have also stayed there and would not rate it as a 5 star hotel. There is a lot better for the money and although Hilton by name is not what u would expect from a chain of this reputation.

Funny story about the Hilton. Some time ago, my wife went there and was asked for her ID card. "Why are you asking Thais and not farangs?" she retorted. "Because farangs have a passport and don't need to be checked" was the reply. "But I'm British" she replied. "Ha-Ha" said the security. A phone call to me and a motorbike taxi to my house for her British passport. When she received it, she showed it to the security guy pointing to her picture "Look, that's me isn't it?" Immediate apology from the security man who said it'll never happen again. And to this day, she has never been asked for her ID although Thai friends she's with have had to produce theirs!
Personally, I don't like the 'flesh market' either. Would rather drink in one of the other late bars.

I'll definately be checking out the Hilton disco this weekend on my first visit to Hua Hin. As im on holiday 150 baht for a drink is affoardable so that wont put me off. Hopefully i'll find a few other late night drinking places with plenty of girls though as i dont like going to the same places every night.

Hoping to relive the Golden Days of Yore, we went to the Hilton "disco" Saturday night. Needless to say, those Golden Days are gone forever . . . and we have had some terrific times there in the past. (They once had very good bands.)
Anyway, I thought a new review might not be amiss for those headed for Hua Hin in the high season and thinking that the Hilton is the top of the line dance venue here.
To be brief about it, the music sucked. Not just my opinion either as in the three hours we were there, not more than a few dozen people bothered to dance. Most just stood around the dance floor bopping a bit, drinking and waiting for the good music to begin. They were still waiting when the place closed I might add.
I found interesting that ALL the band accompaniment (except for the drums) is now recorded...guitars, keyboard, everything! I tend to dance near the stage and I watched as both lead and bass guitarists busied themselves with other things and the music sounded exactly the same as when they were "playing".
The vocals should have been recorded! Unintelligible and for one memorable number, totally off key with the recorded track. ( even the "keyboardist" who generally went asleep once he had the number keyed in and rolling, made faces and frowned at the girls)
Maybe this is the way of the world these days, but the difference between the DJ and the band is shrinking when the band is all on a disc!
Otherwise the place hasn't changed much.. . though maybe it should! A Saturday night in high season should have seen the place packed. It wasn't by a long shot. Chas - I got thrown out the bloody place by the wimp manager and six other staff. This so-called manager perported to be a "decent guy" approached my Thai girlfriend in a busy and noisy dancefloor, and pushed her back amongst the noise of the music. She was shocked and unawares why she was being attacked. Her crime? She had bought 3 small beers at the noisy busy bar and had paid 300 baht with a "Mai Tong Tong" (keep the change) shout thinking she was paying a tip but unawares that 3 beers in the Hilton costs more than 300 baht. The manager (who people have told me is a cool guy), approached my girlfiend on the dance floor as if she had caused some major disturbance and pushed her in an aggressive manner. When I intercepted and pushed this little weed back he got his bouncers to throw me out.It doesn't surprise me the Hilton music sucks. Its run by a pathetic little weed who has no clue how to run an establishment. Unortunately, given its location and mafia style influence, it is a money pit, because the tourists don't know any better and the bar girls don't care and neither do the old fogies who are looking for a cheap shag without paying a bar fine. What a pathetic place and what uninspiring management. The laws of nature dictate, despite its seemingly impregnable commercial status, its mismanagement will be its ultimate downfall. I sincerely hope so!

'Pathetic little weeds' or not Jockey (and I'm not disagreeing with you here) but looking back over this never ending topic, I think some folks are missing an important point. Farang tourists feel safer in a Hilton, simply because they know the name.
It used to be especially noticeable with tourists in the resorts out of town, up towards Chaam, who were actually warned against going into HuaHin at night. Their hotel buses did a last run home about 9.30 - all of course to keep the bar business IN the hotels.
We used to have friends visit who stayed in the Sofitel, and despite knowing us locals were still tucked up by 10.
BTW the only hotel nightclub I ever went to in HH was the old Jazz venue in the Sofitel. Don't know if its been tried again, but they used to have a brilliant Russian pianist and REAL jazz. No cover charge and well worth the exhorbitant drinks prices. From a female perspective it was a nice change to have somewhere to get dressed up for.
