Introducing myself. HH newbie but long time Thailand.

Post by salesguy »

Hello everybody. No big surprise, I am in sales which I do online which allows me to work anywhere. I am a 35 year old expat in my 4th year but only in bkk and Pattaya and these cities don't suit my interests or lifestyle anymore.

I have been up country which I found too boring and I visited HH briefly a few years ago with another couple but the trip is only a blur although I remember the pace being much slower than Pats or bkk which suits me fine.

I'd like to rent a condo and install broadband internet but in meantime I need a clean and quiet guest house with either in room wifi or in room broadband.

Thank you for welcoming me and look forward to meeting some of you soon. All the best

Welcome to the board.
Fire away with any questions about HH. There's normally someone who can answer any queries.

I use TT&T for broadband - not cheap but (apart from Ragnarok hours) pretty reliable and fast....ish

As to condo renting, most of the estate agencies in town do rentals, although asking around and dealing direct may get you a better deal....

welcome to HH mate....come on in the waters lovely!

Welcome to HH Salesguy, hope you enjoy it as much as many of us do and have a long and prosperious stay. In searching the area don't just zip through Cha Am. With a bit of looking around you can find some very nice areas. It is a bit more laid back and less hectic traffic. Bit less expensive and a bit closer to BKK.

Cha Am is deceptive when you drive through the business area but it has a lot going for it. The main beach down from the light is rather crowded and not attractive but the beach we like is closer in to HH near Holiday Inn Regent Resort and Veranda Resort. The beach is very clean and while a lot of people from the resorts use it, it is not crowded and at low tied a very nice walking beach with restaurants etc. along the way. The people are friendly the food is very good and only the occasional vendor selling things.

I believe Cha Am is mostly condo living, you can find housing but not the big housing developments you find in HH the prices are typically lower than HH.

It does have a small super market, no produce or meat. The central market is very nice and has some great buys for produce and meat and about anything else you might need. There is a Home Mart and a lot of small hardware stores. For mall type shopping we either go the the village market in HH or Big C 40km towards BKK. While big C is further the driving is much easier than through HH.

The down side for some would be the night life is much less than HH and things tend to be more spread out then HH. It also takes a bit longer to find your way around as it is more spread out.

You can find some great restaurants in Cha Am and very good sea food as there are several fishing villages along the beach. Veranda resort has very good food at a reasonable price and Crawfords is very poipular for steaks etc. Many of the Thai restaurants are good.

Your best bet Salesguy is to just go poke around, if you are not into being on the beach you may find it a boring place. We typically only go into HH 3 or 4 times a month now, where we use to go to town most every day. The peace and quiet may suit you or bore you to death. We like it.

I should add that these comments are from someone who was around when the Dead Sea just had a mild fever.
