That tuk-tuk shown in the photo is one of those Bajaj things from India. I can understand why they might ban them; I used to use them in Jakarta and they’re unstable as hell. In fact I knocked one over myself one night with a Toyota truck after he U-turned in front of me.
Fortunately it didn’t do any harm and the driver managed to get it back on it’s wheels again, but they’re not really suitable for European roads.

I understand they had to make them roadworthy in line with UK reg's before using them.

I've no idea if there have been any incidents with them?

Only if you come from Poland, are in receipt of benefit and are able to pass the UK Citezenship test (something that only the Poles can do consistently)

tuktuk

Post by redzonerocker »

by reading the report, the problem seems to focus around the tuktuks not sticking to their timetables
like the buses do? ummmm, no!
like the taxis have a timetable? ummmm, no!

seems they are just a victim of uk legislation & or jealous rivalry??
i'm pretty sure they would have had to have been upgraded to uk road safety standards, not sure it would be the ideal mode of transport in down town uk in the middle of winter though!!! :D

They don't have to! But the Govt. has been given them free lessons just in case, it was linked to claiming benefit once, apparantly. But they didn't turn up much once registered, so it was reported elsewhere. Same for asylum seekers. But for our wives from LOS - nah, nothing. They have to pay and pass the test!

Nice to be a 2nd class citizen in my own country and that my ever increasing Council Tax is being used in tis way! :cuss:

We are British, and its our duty to subsidise the rest of the world

Different tuk-tuks judging from the photos. As an earlier poster said they're Indian Bajas.
