Sweet sparkling wine!

Post by caller »

Preferably Italian, Spanish will do, goes by the sub-heading of 'Asti' sort of stuff you pick up from a UK supermarket for about 4gbp - anyone know if you can you get it anywhere in Hua Hin?

The wife would love to know for when we're there in a few weeks time!

Many thanks :thumb:

Thanks BB and I'm not too proud to ask where that might be?

Caller, here is the link http://huahinmedia.com/munich-winebeer.php

Just be careful though wine can tend to be a lot more expensive due to rather large import duty imposed in LOS.

I would suggest to bring some duty free with you for a start.
Bottles of $10 wine that I can buy in the bottle shop here in Aus are on sale out in LOS for the equivilant of $25.00 (750 baht upwards).

Just shop around, there are a few of the supermarkets that also sell wine as well as the bottleshops.

Thanks Chelsea,

I know wine can be pricey in Oz from my own experience, just wasn't sure that there would be any demand for the sweet fizzy stuff (yuk)! I'll have a look when there and try and find the place mentioned by BB2!

Cheers!

Each time I visit my son in BKK I bring a few bottles from France. This now has become a rule and any friend or family member who come visit us has to bring a few bottles :thumb:

Thanks C88 and apologies to Chelsea, my last post should have said 'LOS', not 'Oz'!

Sweet Sparkling Wine

Post by margaretcarnes »

I used to stock a kind of white wine spritzer thing which comes in coke size bottles and is pretty sweet and sickly. Theres also a Rose version, but for the life of me I can't remember what the stuff is called! Help is needed here, but its widely available and Hans will know it. Very popular with Thai ladies and not too expensive.

Margaret, you are probably thinking of "SPY" wine coolers which are available everywhere here in several "flavors" including Classic and Black.

They are very sweet and their only use ( I think) is as an occasional alternative to beer.

I love wine but the last menu I looked at with it listed (Fuji??) had it at 180 baht a glass ( which is really a large wine glass. . .one/third full .)

I have commented before on the fun of hearing Thai person order this or the soft drink "SPRITE" which happen to come out exactly the same in Thai. . . ."Sapai" The ensuing conversation between the waiter and the Thai person to determine which "sapai" is desired is always amusing.
