INDEX Kitchen - Quality of fitting

Post by lockwood74 »

Hi,

Bought a kitchen from Index, bright red gloss, looked lovely in the showroom.

They came to fit it about 6 months ago, they ended up leaving such a mess, electrical fittings not connected, scratches and chips all over the doors, the cooker hood not fitted to the top of the ceiling, just a few points here the list is so long.

I complained and they took away the doors and re-sprayed them back in Bangkok.

They have done most of the work now, but still havnt extended the stainless steel chimney to the ceiling, they say they can not cut around the cement moulding to the ceiling. On the drawing they gave me , drawn on their computer it shows the chimney going to the top of the ceiling.

This was not the service I was expecting, it took a lot longer and the quality of the firring was very poor, even though they had accurate drawings they did not work to them.

Any one had a similar experience.................

Can anyone recomend a way forward to sesolve this last issue with the extractor chimney......
Regards

John

Mr lockwood, I have not experience with these people but with the Pure shop next door I have a ot and I would warn everyone that they are not to be trusted with a fitting also.

I hae bought many htings here and I thought I would be treatd well over some fans fitted to my house. A nightmare - no stock, three different 'engineers' mad eth house electricuty nearly blow up made everything dirty and then no aplogy at all. I will never go there again even though I deal with the owner son. Still no care from them, just to advise of my experience.

Index kitchen

We've put in a kitchen from Index. Not everything was as we ordered, but was fixed thereafter and now we are satisfied with the results. Must add that my wife did all the talking in Thai which helped the cause. I alone would have again no chance......

We only take our clients around index/home pro to gain ideas of what they require .We would never even think about allowing their staff to install if we had to put our name to it .They work for a large company and are on a fixed salary .They do not care .They will never be accountable because they will all deny responsibility IF confronted by management .Management who were not on site and cannot apportion blame

.I am sure the majority of installations are successful and satisfactory but they are not cheap .A customer recently selected a granite counter material at 4500 bt per metre from index .I sourced the same granite for less than half including cutting and fitting .We use a couple of local firms with a reputation to maintain .If the jobs not right they dont get paid and they know it .It is in the contract .They always put it right if the client is not happy and they do it on time .That way we continue to use their services .

The chain stores have the advantage of convenience apart from language barrier and zero in house staff experienced in construction but I for one would prefer to trust a skilled local cabinet maker than assembly line prefabrications installed by mutants that you will never see again .

My first rant this year

If you look around a bit and talk to expats its not difficult to find independent artisans who will do a good job at a much better price than the chains. Too many falangs simply keep their western hat on and march into the mall because its "just like home".
Spend money with the hard-working local tradesmen instead of sending it to corporate coffers. And reward them by passing their names along to friends.
