I noticed in the estate agency window for Avalon that they say they build their villas outside the estates for private orders....ie buy land and they build one on it for you....

...has anyone had one of these done?

If so .... are you happy with the build?

thing is I quite like the look of the biggest villa they do, but I will be damned before I buy one on one of their estates......personally I like a big old gap between me and the house next door. The ones on the estate look jammed up together waaaaay to close....almost Thai house gaps.

Bigger plots at Summerland make the houses look better.

We live at Avalon, our experience has only been positive. Our villa is perfect. Avalon have been brilliant from start to finish and we are living the dream in a home we love.

holmes,
I see you joined HHAD today and have 6 posts to your credit.
Are you an authority on Avalon?
Do you own at Avalon (or anywhere in Thailand)?
Or are you simply a rumour monger?
Like cbranscombe, I am happy with my house. The minor glitches I've had were looked after by Avalon to my satisfaction.

Have to agree with one of Crazy88s earlier posts here - keep an eye on the work in progress whoever is building! I've had 2 new builds in the UK and watched both of them carefully to make sure things were done to spec, especially where the off plan extras were concerned. It paid off. One arsehole joiner had sawn through the edge of a newly installed bath. Another wasn't going to do the extra tiling. A light fitting went in the wrong place, etc.
OK, not serious stuff, but we are supposed to have the industry standards here.
Moved into a 20 year old bungalow last year. Water pouring down inside wall through flashing on the chimney. Garage roof leaking. OK - we had just had torrential rain. The landlord had it sorted. It can happen anywhere.
I think my internal doors look tacky and cheap. They will be replaced, as will the now ageing boiler.
Point is - what you see is what you get. Repairs and improvements can always be done, and any property needs ongoing maintainance wherever it is. Many folks in farang land would love marble floors and patios, teak windowframes and aircon as standard, but the cost is prohibitive. OK, property prices are rising in HH as well, but look at the quality of some of the materials used, and what you would pay for the same at home, and be thankful!
