Thai Brekky

Post by caller »

This post is made with tongue firmly in cheek!

Now I know some of you that post here have never left the farang haven that is Hua Hin. Others have friends/spouses/family from all over the place that you visit whenever, some have 2nd homes in other parts of LOS and yet another group live in the hinterland around Hua Hin.

So what are you faced with at brekky time when out and about?

Here's the culinary delight that I am confronted with (a bit on the small side I thought?):

Happy, smiling frogs, I guess? The cat is circling with intent!

So what's your poison (he say's in jest)? :D

Caller, did you have to drive a pick-up truck around in circles in the rain, with the locals chasing after the frogs in the headlights?

Not that I'm aware of, but who knows what I did?

Is that what you have to do?!

Ma-in-law usually gets then from market, but these are local. I have no idea how they found there way into the bucket? :D

They sell them in the local Asian markets here in Southern California, live. I pointed out to my wife and Mom in law, but they are from Cha Am area and said "no way".

I don't disagree although I've had lots of deep fried frog legs that were aroi!

I'm sure there are more traditional ways of catching frogs, but this is the technique I've been shown; I almost crashed the truck because I was laughing so much!

Steve G, how thw hell did you manage to drive in a straight line after driving round in circles for an extended period, You probably looked like I would after trying to drive after drinking 10pts of Stella (not that I have done it). It is hard enough to walk straight, let alone drive

Well obviously you could drive in a straight line and catch frogs, but by the time you had a bucket full you might be quite a long way from home, so it’s better to find a patch of open ground and drive in circles. If you don’t have a vehicle handy you can catch them wearing one of those miners lights on your head, but then you’re going to get wet because the frogs come out in the rain.
It’s better to get a couple of kids to catch the frogs whilst you stay dry driving around in circles.

There's a vacant overgrown lot next to my house and after every heavy rain it seems to be overrun by aliens with lights (some wearing those miners hats).

Now I know what they are doing!
