WE ARE SPOILT

Restaurants, food, beverage, hawkers, and local markets and suppliers. This is the place for discussion on Hua Hin's culinary options.

WE ARE SPOILT

Post by richard »

After spending a few years here and reading many comments about eating places (eateries to the Yanks community), Ive come to the conclusion we are spoilt :D

When we go out to eat we now have a quandary. Budget, Fare, Location, ambiance and there is so much to choose from

Back in the Uk I'd fall at the 1st hurdle, Budget

I think the quality of food Thai, Chinese, Farang or Indian is very good

9 times out of 10 the service is excellent

We are also blessed with the easy decision. 'Well that was no good tonight' and walk away knowing there is another place round the corner

I for one am very grateful and realise these guys have a tough job with loads of competition

Every place we have been to appreciate feedback

We think we're something we're not and we compare every restaurant to expensive restaurants back home that we've never been to.
At the end of the day when you pay 185 Baht for a 3 course meal, with wine, you have the right to look down your nose at the indigenous peeps who have tried their best to serve you.

That restaurant defiled me publically and Im gonna TAKE THEM DOWN on a local website. I'm really important.

Nice post.

As a CPA I see lots of businesses here in the states. Some are doomed to failure because the owner wants to run the place for them, not for their customers.

But many restaurants (and other businesses) are trying to make it, and welcome the constructive criticisms.

Plus as was said, when you pay 185 bt, you shouldn't expect a Michilin 3 star.

As a business owner, I strive to always know whats going on in my business, but it is impossible. I must work and even have the occasional day off, and trip to Thailand.

I've been told over the years, by clients, of problems and I appreciate it. Some can, and should, be changed, and some can't.

How true SJ!
Like everyone, I've been to restos that offered poor value, bad service etc. but rather than slag them on a public forum I just don't go back. If you find a good one pass the word along.

As I have stated in other posts, we sometimes expect too much from a (emerging) 3rd world country. If you can't intergrate and accept that there are constraints (be they corrupt or not) go home...

Eating in Europe

Post by Chas »

Having just returned from three weeks in Europe, you can not imagine my relief in seeing food. . .both in the market and in restaurants. . that does not come at an outrageous price! Maybe the world has moved on and it is that way in all developed countries but, we have it really good here in Hua Hin as far as food goes. I kept wondering how ordinary Europeans could manage the prices we saw. (My first trip through Tesco yesterday I filled the shopping cart for 2,500 baht.) We are spoiled and there are so many great places to eat out here that picking one for the evening from among our favorites is often difficult.

Why should I post about the 99 great restaurants I've been to, when I can write a story about the one that brought out my starter 12.5 seconds BEFORE my wife's.
Yes I kid you not, our starters arrived at ......SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TIMES.

Legal suit is underway, local press notified, I've stuck flyers on every lamp post in town, this post should go world wide. They won't know whats hit 'em.
And I'm not just doing this for mine or your sakes, this is to protect our children, and our children's children.

It's a culinary jungle out there, you've been warned.

Perhaps we could form a diners/waiters/chefs and restauranteurs association ?

In order to preserve impartiality it could be fronted by someone with a nice personality who could not boil and egg if their life depended on it ?

In the case of complaints we could have a panel comprising of ex celebrity chefs from around the world who actually know what kind of olives go in a burrito .

Venues could be fairly graded on the "egg scale"

Raw egg

Soft boiled egg :)

Hard boiled egg :D

Sunny side up !!!

Crazy 88

Count me in for the next workshop. Can we hold it in one of the town's best restaurants, stretch it out for two hours straddling lunchtime, and allow the participants to consume nothing but the odours eminating from the kitchen, resulting in near starvation.

Oh no, we done that one this morning. Doh!
