Post by buksida »

Firefox 3 is officially released today (17th in the States). They are attempting a world record for the most downloaded piece of software within 24 hours of launch.

You too can help contribute and get your hands on the worlds greatest browser, go here and get downloading:

If anyone has tried downloading Firefox 3 for Mac OSX, can you let me know if it loads up. I've just downloaded and it comes in a .dmg file. I've never had a problem with .dmg before, but this download seems to have no mountable file systems.

If it's a world record number of downloads in 24 hours they want, this is not the way to do it. I'll wait 'till tomorrow and try again. :|

Can't help you Macheads but just installed the PC version and found it noticeably faster at loading pages. No real visual differences so most of the changes must be under the hood.

It makes IE look like its running on a 486 DX2! For those that are still using "Internet Excruciation" find out why you should upgrade to Firefox here:

Are you using a firewall, proxy or 'internet security' package? Sometimes they can block new applications. Did you have a version of Firefox 2 installed previously?

Should I have uninstalled the version 2 before I downloded the new one???

I tried it earlier on and got about 83% loaded and then it just froze. Perhaps some people, like myself, might be experiencing problems due to this?

The Windows firewall will automatically allow it (installed it on 2 machines today) - any other third party firewalls such as Kerio or Zone Alarm may need to be configured manually.

No need to uninstall FF2, it will over write it and copy over all of your settings and bookmarks.

Lomu, yeah that could have caused it - crappy Hua Hin internet connections don't help either. I downloaded it this morning with no troubles.

I don't know why they have done it this way but it implies it needs to be installed from drive. If you download Magic ISO and interrogate the file with that you will then be able to copy the files to a CD or better still a dongle or virtual drive. Install MagicISO Virtual and mount the .dmg on that and see if that works.

If the file really is unmountable it means it is corrupted and you will need to download it again, ideally in a quiet time. Midnight - 07:00 is best.

firebird, I would say you have some serious issues with your setup if you have to format the disk twice following a browser install. Firstly version 2.0.0.3 is very old and has a number of security holes 2.0.0.14 is the latest you should be using.

FF3 has had over 9 million people using it now so I would be inclined to think the errors are caused by your system and not their software.

If you can post your specs and setup maybe we can help.
