EURO 2008 on tv in Hua Hin somewhere?

Post by monina01 »

hey there!
We will be in HuaHin arriving on tuesday the 17th. I was wondering, are there any bars that show the EURO 2008 matches on tv? I know I know, we are on vacation and should probably not be watching tv at all, but some in our party are really wanting to see Holland in the quarterfinals on saturday.

So I was wondering if anywhere in HuaHin the matches are shown on tv?

If not, too bad, no problem....otherwise...we probably will be bringing our orange t shirts with us.. :)

monina01,
Welcome to the board, and I guess you are Dutch so must be pretty happy with your team at the moment! The Euros are on Thai TV, and some bars I am sure are showing them, but many will not because of the time the later game is on; the 'early' games kick off at 11 pm here, and the late one at 1.30 am, so the later one is interrupted by the official closing time for bars, which depending on the time of the month and the corresponding police mood is anywhere between midnight and 2 am, with a select few bars able to go beyond this, and others having what we Brits call a 'lock in' to avoid any trouble with the police. Your best bet is to stroll around when you get here and see who is showing the earlier game, and ask if they will be showing the later one - some bars will have a board outside advertising this too. I am sure you will find a suitable venue, and good luck to the Orange people!

That's all finished now. The third matches of the group stages and the remainder of the tournament will be held at 20:45 EST which is 01:45 Thai Time. A lock-in will be your only option. Bear in mind that the Dutch last group match is on at the same time as Italy v France so that maybe the game picked by Thai TV. The Holland v Russia/Sweden match will be OK though.

If are staying in a hotel the TV should get the match if tuned in correctly. It is on Channel 7 which usually come up on station 3 in Hua Hin.

I recently found the Red Bar on Soi Binthabat to be very obliging for the Champion's League final. I arrived there a couple of minutes after kick off (Happy Torro Bar decided it was only available with Thai commentary), and the place was packed with nowhere to sit. The staff produced a table and 2 chairs from the back - excellent service

I was in there that night, must have seen you but can't exactly remember. Were you sitting right under the big screen ?

Red Bar are showing the Euro games each night despite the times, they have lock-ins providing theres a couple who want to watch it.
Not sure about other bars, but some must be doing same.

Guess,
You are of course correct about the times of the matches, but i think there are two Thai channels (7 and 9 i believe) covering it so i imagine both of each final group match will be shown simultaneously - we will find out tonight i guess.

we are not staying at a hotel but in a privately owned house. They have tv but only for use of dvd's....so no cable or satelite or whatever it is you use.
The match Holland vs Roemania is not really the one we would like to see, (though it will be very interesting to find out which of the three will be the number 2 in the group) but the quarter final on saturday against either Sweden or Russia...

Ok Red Bar, wrote that one down. Hopefully we will be able to find it :D

Anybody else of this forum going to watch the game on saturday?

I was sat at the table nearest the toilet, facing one of the smaller screens. My wife was asleep on my shoulder for most of the match - came alive for the penalty shoot out, at which point she started jeering the Chelsea supporters with a fair degree of success.

I will arrive in Hua Hin this friday, so i was also wondering if the EC soccer matches would be shown in some bar or hotel. But i've just been informed that you also can watch the matches from Studio Sport (dutch sports TV program) online with livestreams, ek2008.nos.nl

Im staying at a guesthouse that has WIFI so i will be able to watch the matches via my laptop :D

And ofcourse i will be supporting our orange Dutch team :P

Edit!:

Hmmm bad news, a dutch expat tried to log on, but because of a IP check you cant watch the streams outside The Netherlands.

Correct. The coverage by the Dutch NOS through internet is exclusively open for IP addresses within The Netherlands. But otherwise the streaming probably would have been too slow anyway resulting in a constantly freezing footage hence extremely frustrating to watch. Go find a TV and a bunch of friends. There are also lots of Swedish people around in Hua Hin so whatever the result have a beer together during and after the game! (If Russia does not beat the Swedes, but my guess would be they won't). ORANJE............AANVALLUH

The main problem with viewing in a public place is the time. Not many bars or restaurants will open late just to cater for the football if they cannot sell drinks.

It may be worth trying Khun Oy next to the railway on Soi 94. He caters for farangs and often has football on. It is an open place so no need to lock up.
