NOTICE OF RACE
1. OCCASION AND TROPHIES
Hua Hin Regatta 2008 is an annual sailing event that has been organized since the year 2000 in honour of His Majesty King Bhumiphol Adulyadej who excels in sailing sportsmanship in Thailand. This year’s regatta, the Hua Hin Regatta 2008, will be specially organized as a competition for several Royal Trophies, namely:
Royal Vega Rudder trophy of His Majesty the King for varies sailing classes,
Super Mod National Championship trophy from His Majesty the King,
OK Dinghy National Championship trophy from Her Majesty the Queen,
Princess Cup for Optimist Championship of the late Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana.
2. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Organizing Authority is Yacht Racing Association of Thailand (YRAT), in conjunction with the Royal Thai Navy, Tourist Authorities of Thailand and the District Authority of Hua Hin.
3. RULES
The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Rules of respective classes and The Sailing Instructions.

5. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
5.1 Entries are open to all members of clubs affiliated to YRAT, individual members of YRAT and members of Clubs and MNA as invited.
5.2 The entry fee is Baht 1,600 (USD 50) per boat. Platu is Baht 3,200 (USD 100).

7. VENUE
The venue is at Hua Hin beach, Prachuap Khirikhan Province, about 200 kilometers south of Bangkok.
8. COURSES
Regatta Championship courses will be trapezoid.
Vega Rudder Championship course will be long distance course.
9. CHARTERED BOATS
A limited number of boats and equipment of all classes except Catamaran will be available for charter on a “first come first serve” basis. Self-provided boats and equipment are allowed and are subjected to measurement. The charter fees are as follows:
Optimist : USD 50
Super Mod : USD 75
OK : USD 100
Laser : USD 100
420/470 : USD 100
Enterprise : USD 100
Platu : USD 400
A damage deposit of USD 100, Platu USD 200 is required and will be returned if no damage.
10. SCORING
10.1 The Low Point Scoring System will be used.
10.2 One race is required to be completed to constitute a regatta.
10.3 For the Vega Rudder Championship, the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system will be used.
11. ADVERTISING
The Regatta is classified as a category C. The Organizing Committee may require competing boats to display event sponsor advertising on the sail and hull.
12. PRIZES
Beside the Royal Trophies, the trophies will be presented to the top three boats of each class with five entries or more.
Replicas of the Perpetual Vega Rudder Royal Trophy will be presented to the winner and five runner-up boats.
13. TRANSPORTATIONS
Following transportations are available:-
13.1 From and to Suvarnabhumi International Airport:-
- Taxis and Airport Express busses between the airport and Major hotels in Bangkok Including Bangkok Central Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) and Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal.
- Direct meter taxis between the airport and the regatta venue in Hua Hin with reasonable price.
13.2 There are 12 trains of the State Railway of Thailand between Bangkok Central Railway Station and Hua Hin Railway Station daily.
13.3 Several bus sevices daily between Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal and Hua Hin Bus Staion.
13.4 The Yacht Racing Association of Thailand may arrange free buses between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Hua Hin for big groups if requested in advance.
14. ACCOMMODATION
Hua Hin District is a famous and popular seaside and tourist resort on the western coast of the Gulf of Thailand. There is great variety of accommodation facilities ranging from luxurious 5-star hotels to comfortable guest houses, with prices ranging from approximately USD 25 to USD 130 per night. The Naval Yacht Club Hua Hin, the venue of the Regatta, has also a limited accommodation with a price of USD 53 per night.
15. DISCLAIMER
Competitors compete entirely at their own risk and responsibility. The Organizing Authority and any other parties involved in the organization of the regatta accept no liability whatsoever for any injury, damage, loss or claim whether personal or material, incurred by or inflicted to participants before, during or after the regatta.

Agree Randy, you can't see any of the racing with the naked eye. However, it was quite impressive watching all of those boats returning to the shore in the evenings when it was all over. The Thais tend to sail their boats the way they drive their motorcycles.Randy Cornhole wrote:I went to watch this event a couple of years ago and only saw a smattering of small white dots on the horizon...
