Aquarium in Prachuab

Stopped off at the Waghor Aquarium 10k's south of Prachuab on our way back from Bangsaphan today. Its been a couple of years since I've been there so thought I'd have a look how they have progressed and show the kids around. Entrance is 20 baht for adults and 10 for kids, no double pricing bullshit either which was nice to see.

They have some impressive tanks and a huge multi-level cylindrical tank where a diver feeds some small black-tip reef sharks and groupers. A tunnel walk-through houses leopard sharks and shovel nosed rays and there is a turtle pen outside. The aquarium is definitely worth the hours drive from Hua Hin, especially if you have kids - they'll love it!

We've called in there for a couple of consecutive years now. Very good for the money - it was actually free last year. The grand children love it. Very convenient if visiting Ao Manao - one of my favourite places in the area.

You've got some nice photos there, considering they're through glass.

As Buksi said, about 10 km after Prachuab on the left going south.
The signs are for WAKO as far as I can remember.
Went there a year or so ago - well worth the visit, it was absolutely free then

Im sure we went to the same one, is it right on the beach Buksi, on the way to, but a bit short of Sam Roi Yod ?

Aquarium might not be that impressive to some, but worth a visit, Thai missus liked it not having been to a big aquarium before and will def take the nipper when he's older. Great for kids, and you can have a picnic on the deserted beach after.

If same place there's a small Science centre there, again interesting and informative for kids and people from the Midlands.

Definately worth a day trip from Hua Hin folks, take the Thai inlaws, picnic on the beach, a day out they'd appreciate.

Your description of the location sounds right SJ. I've never seen anybody using the beach either. As I said earlier, we tend to favour Ao Manao, where the beaches are still relatively deserted, and good food is readily available at true Thai prices as opposed to tourist prices.

Yep, its a great little spot and as usual one that is not advertised or promoted to tourists in Hua Hin. It must be royally or government funded as I cant see them covering the overheads with such a small entrance fee - especially when you compare it to the whopping 750 baht Siam Ocean World charge the aliens to get in.

There is another good aquarium in Phuket but this one is definitely equal to it, it also has a very educational theme to it with info on local ecosystems and marine life. Will have to check out the science park next time.

Interesting, never knew one existed out near HH. How does it compare to the one on Bang Saen beach in Chonburi?

For those who like their fish of the FRESHWATER variety :wink:

There's a great fish market / aquarium just off highway 323 North West of Ratchaburi near Ban Pong. About 1 1/2 hours from HH

Everything you can think of wrt to aquariums and vast quantities of different freshwater fish for sale.

Next door is a somewhat rundown aquarium but have been told that a new investor is about to refurbish it.

However - even now this aquarium has some fine specimens of Giant Siamese Carp, Pacu, Redtail Catfish, Giant Mekong Catfish, Mekong Stingrays + Arapeima and Alligator Gar.

You can get right up close and personal through the glass with these fellas.

I was tempted to empty a few of their tanks and transport these beauties to my place :shock:
