Where to get a big bike legal (tabien)?

Post by thaiger »

Bom Dia!
I'm trying to get my 250 legal, and so is my buddy with his V-Max. Seems like CP Bike is the place to go in Hua Hin but the guy is in financial distress and I wouldn't give him any cash at the moment. Is there a reliable shop out there which can get a real green book and plate? No recycled book/frame number jobs, please! I'm tired of riding my bike illegal.
That said, is there something like a Big Bike Club in Hua Hin? I was surprised to see so many cool bikes at the Prachuap bike show last month, I took lots of pictures, if you're interested I'll mail 'em to you.
So where's the "Hua Hin Hell's Angels" meet?

Maybe try The Biker Bar on the Canal Road? I'm sure others will have more details.

No 81 affiliated clubs in Hua Hin as far as i am aware .The lone wolf bike shop should be able to help you with the papers .Our club president has a tattoo studio in Satukarn square .Name Nidders tattoos .I've been all over the place with the club and he always knows local bikers even in the most obscure little towns .

Thanks for your reply, crazy 88. Forgive my ignorance - what does "No 81 affiliated clubs" mean? And where would I find the Lone Wolf Bike Shop?
Maybe your club president could tattoo a license plate on my girl's back and she'll ride topless, or she could wear a bra made of tax and insurance stickers...

Word is that 90% of the big bikes (bigger than 250cc) are illegal, that they have no papers nor a valid plate. I guess it's because it is difficult, expensive and risky. - I'd like to go legal, I would pay up to 50K THB for that, but it seems easier to find some illegal drugs than a reliable shop that would make my bike legal.

I have used the Suzuki shop near to the Honda shop on Petkasem. They did ask for details of the registered owner and why I wanted to change it. My understanding is that they do some rudimentary checks and when they draw a blank it is registered to you. (Or to be more precise, a Thai person who represents you). It took 2 months and cost 1,500 BHT.

mate

drive down the main Phetkassem road out towards Cha Am from HH town centre.

On your right you will pass a Shell Garage, then a soi off to the right. then some noodle stalls, then a second soi on your right with a 7/11 on the corner. Turn right there and head up the side soi.

Keep on up the soi - halfway up you cross the rail tracks

At the top is a traffic light junction. Turn right.

Head along the canal road with the canal on your left

100mts from the traffic light junction with the canal to your left side you see a big black and orange townhouse building and a sign for a biker bar - the shop and bar are there.

Sandman,
Don't you mean that you've got to keep the garage and 7/11 on your left hand side going there? From HH to CA.

Seems like sandman and crazy are talking about the same place; I'll go and check it out as soon as I find the time. Just moved to HH and need some time to find my way around. I'll also ask about the "81 thing"...
Guess, you're talking about something else. The bike has never been registered so there's no change of ownership. Actually the process is to get legal paperwork for a bike that has been imported in parts to dodge the high import tax, after which the parts have been illegally reassembled to be a functional vehicle. Using the different import papers (invoices) from different import companies for frame and engine (you have to be sly to get around the high import tax!) makes it possible for certain people with certain connections to certain places to come up with a green book in your name and a matching license plate which has been entered into the computer of the Department of Motor Vehicles. No problems with police checks anymore, they can call in the license and frame number and everything is positive. Prices range from 25 to 75K THB and it can take months. If the shop goes south during the process you're out of your deposit and maybe the invoice is gone, too. No written garantees, TIT. So you want to know who you're dealing with and the best way to find out is to talk to the local bikers.

Lomu is right mate - keep the Shell garage on your left......

urk

go past the garage, count the sois.....one just after, a second mid way through the noodle stalls (which you can take) and a third with the 7/11 on the corner (take it now.....dont miss).

Go over the railway lines to the traffic lights at the offset crossroads junction. Turn right and look for the orange and black place on the right 100mts down the road.

bingo!

Thanks Lomu..... will paint L and R on my feet now.

Its a fully blown chop maker shop so they should know how to get "new" made bikes registered.
