Post by vistana »

Hi everyone, can you tell me if the Tesco Lotus store is open in HH yet? and also is there a Big C nearby ..... we are looking to buy new furniture and electrical items for our new house and will be in HH in three weeks time.
If anyone can recommed some other good places as well we would be very gratefull.
Thanks

Not due to open until next year. Try a search for furniture posts, its been covered several times.

I have had to edit your account since we don't allow promotional banners in signatures unless pre-approved by us.

Tesco

Hi Lev,
Sorry ..did not realise the signature had to be approved before we can use it, how do we go about getting approval.
We are interested in advertising our home as a holiday let or long term let, any suggestions would be much appreciated..... its all very new to us and a bit daunting!
Thanks

Tesco Lotus in Petkasem will open next year as the learned Lev states. It will be accomanied by a load of other western crap like Dunking Donuts and KFC.

No sign of Big C yet but I suspect that they will follow.

I think it's time for me to move south. Too many farangs here for my liking.

I am an unhappy bunny at the moment.

vistana - as well as the Tesco Lotus there is an Index furniture store being built at the moment, but I have no idea if it will be open in time for you, although it does look closer to completion than the TL. In case it is opened in time, it is north of the town centre near Soi 23 and looks enormous! Other than that the nearest Big C is approximately 40 minutes north in Petchaburi. It may be worth you checking the other threads in this section for recommendations on local furniture stores too.

The only (closest) decent hardware shop re tools, el-tools + other related stuff is Big C in Petchaburi. I'm sure you can find tools in H.H. but you'll have to search trough an endless list of small shops scattered all around.
Also, the prices are low in H.H. but so also the quality.
At least Big C has a lot more choices re price & guality.
That's my opinion.

Best hardware store in HH is on the Pala-U road, past the 7-11 and its on the right hand side.

Not interested in the holiday home promotions on here then?

Also very good is the H/W store opposite the clock tower in Petchkasem.

Try Pae Mia market on Tuesday evening in canal road near to driving range.

Regarding Tesco Lotus and HomePro, can any of you HH residents advise (exactly) where these places are supposed to be located, and (approximately) when they are supposed to open.

We are weary of driving to Baan Khun Thiang to access them.

Safeway and Home Depot (and especially Ikea), where are you???

Drive south along P'kasem road from HH town centre. Its about three quarters of the way down to the Khao Takiab U-turn on the right hand side of the road. Not due for completion for a few months yet by the look of it.

I think the nearest Ikea warehouse is in Malaysia and Singapore.
Nothing in Thailand.
Maybe too expensive for the Thais?

Thankyou to Jaime and Norseman for your replies -- we'll check out the building site the next time we are in HH.

Regarding Ikea, we lived in Singapore for a few years in the 1990's and visited the Ikea frequently, as did half of Singapore judging by the ever-present crowds. I suspect Ikea's absence from Thailand is more to do with vested interests who can't stand the competition, rather than pricing. Another interesting thing -- it seemed to me that a huge proportion of Ikea's products carried the "Made in Thailand" label......
