Floating Market

Post by Francois »

Before my daughter goes back to France, I'd like to show her the floating market in Damnoen Saduak and Ampawa.

I know it is not far from Samut Songkram but I never drove to go there.

Could anyone give me some benchmarks so that I don't get lost :)

TIA

It is actually in Ratchaburi Province. I will send you a PM to a good link, not sure if the link is allowed on here.

Damnoen Saduak

North on 4
Right onto Rama 2
Cross the river bridge at Samut Songkram
Signed first left after the bridge
Road number 325
After about 18km - plenty of signs.
When you turn left into the general area ignore all the touts who will jump out in the road to try and get your business. Go to almost the end of the area and you will see a big coach / bus park on the right hand side.

You can park here and get a boat.

Get there about 08.00 - before the tour buses from BKK. Journey from HH should be no more than 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 hrs

Enjoy :thumb:

Make sure you get a small boat - the large ones can't get around the market stalls. We tend to avoid the ones where the coaches are parked.

Be careful about the prices asked - they wanted Bht500 for about 12 items of spices ( very small quantities ) but nicely presented in cellophane but the price in town under B :guns: ht100

Probably very good advice by PET, I've never seen anything sold there cheaper than you can buy it in Hua Hin. We have always been for the experience of the boat ride rather than the shopping. The only thing we usually buy is breakfast - its enjoyable to be able to sit there eating your breakfast while looking at the trader's wares.
