Alexander Solzhenitsyn dies at 89

Post by sandman67 »

The BBC is reporting the death of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, writer, dissident and political prisoner under Stalin. A sad day for literature indeed. "One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich" is one of my favorite books.

I really disliked English Literature at school (went to an all girls' one, and most of the reading was the Bronte sisters or Shakespeare). One term they gave us 'One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich' - I couldn't put it down. It's one of the 'must read' books as far as I'm concerned.

I thought he was already dead. He did damned well to live to such a ripe old age after what he went through.

The Bangkok Post is either screwing up badly, or they know something the other media sources are not stating. I received a news alert SMS on my cell phone this afternoon from them saying the man was suffering because of a stroke, and put a gun to his head and killed himself. I believe it even stated that it was a rifle, not a hand gun. Pete

id take the Beeb as a more reliable source - died of a heart attack

still, 89 is a good innings for a man who lived through what he did.....urk bad grammar
