use misuse of the internet

Post by margaretcarnes »

This might or might not be Mags, who has also given up on the conspiracy theory topics. They were interesting at first, cos its something we don't see much of in the media in the UK. So as a purely academic discussion it was OK for a while. Problem is that such an emotive subject cannot remain academic. So I've not visited any conspiracy stuff for quite a while.
Catching up on lengthy topics like that can be a nightmare anyway.

I do understand the argument about limiting discussions to LOS and HH, but know from experience how easy it is to lose track of the real world. IMO to limit discussion in such a way would make some expats even more insular and idealistic about what is really a tiny pinprick on the map.
So some comparisons between life in HH and other places is not only inevitable but, I believe, essential in maintaining a balance and reality.
I mean for gawds sake we don't want HH folks to think they are the only ones with Tesco problems do we?

I've had a tweakaroo with the code and now the "latest topics" list on the right has been modified to:

1) Only show Hua Hin related topics (nothing from Foo, Current Affairs, Sports Fans, or Entertainment Zone will be included).

2) Increased the count to show 15.

3) Added number of replies.

There will be various versions of this list syndicated onto the other websites in the network.

Those that want all latest topics need to use the "view topics since last visit" link.

Well written. You should think about getting a job as a journalist.

Cookies are little files that get downloaded with you browser from the sites you visit. They can do anything they want and it is often the way spyware creeps in and runs.

A more legitimate use is to hold session information. So if you logon on to a service with a username and password the PC can store a session ID to identify itself when asking for a new page.

If you use Google and try a few results until you find the one you want you will find that the ones you have already visited change colour. his information is stored in a cookie and if you do not delete cookies on exit from IE or Mozilla the list will be remembered the next time if you do the same search or a similar one again.

Unfortunately they are abused more than they are used which is why I delete mine as often as possible.

Thanks Guess - a nice clear explanation. So thats why we need to clean up the stuff regular. I knew a build up could slow the system down, but not the security issues.
