As two of my heroes...(Beavis and Butthead) said so rightly......
This SUCKS....
looking at the "Hot topics" now we have......oh a bunch of IT related topics and one each about about golf memberships and a knacker chop.
Great.
Pleeeeeease put it back.....
I am part of the reason for this change (being a troll) and Im pleeeeease saying put it back.... I promise Im trying hard not to be stinky and green so much.
You can do a look at.....yaddah yaddah yaddah..........im lazy......please put it back....and the response count is annoying......guess Im a HHAD Luddite.

I guess this new approach is a result of contaminating threads like "add one word a day". Makes sense but I also would prefer to see the latest posts in one overview instead of having to log in all the time. Would it not be possible to ban individual posts from appearing in the overview instead of all the posts in certain categories?
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
Sorry guys, there has been a lot of thought over this and displaying only the Hua Hin related sub-forums on the list seems the way to go since HHAD is supposed to be a Hua Hin forum. The idea is to attract more members by having more relevant topics on display, nobody searching for nuking Iran is going to arrive at this site but they will by searching for Hua Hin and anything related.
There are an unusually high number of tech problems at the moment though so we would also ask if people can post them all in the "digital surgery" thread and not create new ones!
You'll just have to take the extra 3 seconds from your busy schedule to login and read the "view last topics" link.

There was quite a lot of discussion prior to the change. For those who missed it all, there were things said on the threads "misuse of Internet" and other suggestions' threads.
One specific remark made by a regular poster was that 5 of the 10 topics in the top ten list were conspiracy theory related.
The top 10 appears on many other sites so needs to attract new readers. I am not sure that a few regulars hotly debating world affairs actually achieves this. Much as we all like sport, it really has nothing to do with Hua Hin either.
What I have done to get to places quickly on the site is to set up bookmarks to the places I visit the most.

I have found it far easier under this new system i still get my notifications for threads i am involved with and by using the posts since last visit i pick up any new topics and then see if i want to join the debate.
so i am 100% behind Buksi Buksi for prime minister
I think more general than that. The conspiracy theories that somehow came out at the same time just highlighted a problem that has been around for at least two years but with less impact.
Examples are
"what movies can you recommend" or "see this one" or what are you watching now"
How do I get from "Airport to Hua Hin, BK to Hua HIn, Korat to Hua Hin"
Where can I buy "sausages", "spices", "egg plants", "corn flakes"
Three threads called Movies, Travel queries and Grocery Suppliers would cover that.
That would make a search easier too.
As for humor and trivia, I would like to see a separate forum that was under total control of moderators. Threads to start could be the three Best ofs, The Riddler and The Puzzler.
The maximum possible hogging of the top 15 list would only be 5.

For crying out loud its not hard to log in look at 'view posts since last visit' and then decide what you want to look at. Is it....
Whilst I accept that this an information forum about Hua Hin, is it not also a forum for those that live or have lived here to keep in touch with friends and whats going on In HH and outside.
Perhaps we need a section for keeping in touch only?
Or will I have to visit HH again just to have a relevant post...
The real problem is how different people both perceive the 'Latest topics' link and how that influences the way they use the forum. As far as I am concerned the 'Latest topics' list is a marketing tool (for want of a better phrase) to entice interested people to have a look and hopefully join the forum; however, some people use it to keep up to date as they either don't have the time or are too lazy to log in and use 'View posts since last visit': as the difference in time to do these is counted in the seconds I would politely suggest that the complainers get real and spend those extra few seconds it takes to log in and 'View posts since last visit', and use the forum as it is intended - if you don't have the time to sit and read threads/posts why bother checking to see what has been posted recently?

I see the changes as a definite improvement. Browsers can be set to auto-login, so no effort required. The controversial topics are less in people's faces.
Thanks to the moderators for allowing free speech, even though it clearly causes a bit of argy-bargy.
