Back in the USA

I know most trip reports deal with guys coming to SEA for fun, food and frolic with the girls.

Guys coming from their home countries and sharing their experiences about their experiences here.

Well I live in the LOS and travel to the PI, Cambodia, Laos and such so this report is going to be a little different. It’s about my Holiday back in the US.

A lot of times people ask what you miss about “Home” (actually this is my home now) well not much…

I don’t miss the women; the ones I can get are 50-60 years old and have attitudes.
The women I like are in their 20s and 30, and look at me as if I were an ax murder when I give them a smile and say Hi. Guess because I’m a fat old geezer and not a handsome man like I am here.

What I do miss is mostly 2 things. The food and my cat Nub. He’s 14 and a little on the senile side but he’s still a good cat. My ex was gracious enough to take him which was a really good thing for all 3 of us.

After a 20 some hour flight my Ex meets me at the airport and we have 2 major stops for the day.

First, straight off the plane is In and Out Burger for a double, double animal style (grilled onions) and a Dr Pepper. God that was good. We ate and got caught up on a couple of things and then it was off to the next stop Social Security.

That was one of the main reasons for coming home. Getting that started and of course doing the family thing which in my case isn’t much of a thing.

I did most of the paper work for SS on line but there was a mix up and they had the original claim down as a disability claim rather then retirement. Something to do with my retiring at 59 ½ because of PTSD. (we won’t go there at this time)

The Ex had set up an appointment for me so we got in straight away and the lady interviewer was very nice and changed the forms, verified some question and after signing a couple of docs we were on our way. Easiest thing I’ve done to get money in a long time.

BTW you can have them set up a direct deposit to Bangkok Bank if you so desire. It’s the only foreign bank they will do it with.

I’m still feeling pretty good and the jet lag hasn’t kicked in yet so it’s off to Big Dog to buy some shorts that will fit my fat butt. Had a good sale there, bought 7 pairs of shorts and a pair of swimming trunks for $103..

Time to go home and see the cat.

Nub’s a little on the large size weighing in at 9 kilos a little over 18 lbs. But the ladies love him just like his Daddy.

Image

Well exhaustion had set in and it was time for a nap. Tonight we would cover the second thing on the food list which was a Papa Murphy’s Cowboy pizza and Corona beer.

The neighbor comes over, we eat, we chat and for me its bed time again. Took a sleeping pill hoping it would help with the jet lag but it didn’t. That would be something I suffered trough almost the whole trip.

The next day the Ex loaned me her car and I was off on my own.

Straight off to DMV (without an appt) to get my license renewal that was going to expire that very day.
I was surprised I was in and out within 20 minutes with my temp in hand. They mailed me my license which I got the day before I left to come back here.

Some of you may remember in a previous post I was looking for a cam corder. Well finally decided on a:
Sony
HDR-SR11 60GB High Def Camcorder 3.2 inch 5.6MP 12X Option Zoom
Manufacturer Part# HDRSR11
Screen Size: 3.2"
Optical Zoom: 12x
Image Sensor: 0.33" CMOS
Product Series: HDR
Digital Zoom: 150x

Image

I also bought the wide angle lens, which at the time I didn’t know doesn’t work with the zoom telephoto.

And also got the 8gig Memory Stick Pro Duo which I understand I can plug into my wii station

My thoughts were I can record something using the stick that I didn’t necessarily want on my 60 gig hard drive. Hummmmmmmm what could that be???

The next thing on the food list was a really good Mexican dinner.

This folks is what chips and salsa are supposed to look like. Something I have yet to find in SEA

Image

And now some enchiladas with sauce and fresco beans and Spanish rice.

Image

My Telac and I buy most of our veggies at the open markets and some at Tesco. But the produce is always small and most of the time unripe.
Like the tomatoes. I know a lot of people don’t like tomatoes but I do. So I took a few shots of OUR fruit markets to let her see the difference.

Now this is a tomato!!!
Image

Not one of those half green golf ball sized ones you buy here. But a big, slice it a ½ inch thick and make a tomato sandwich kind of a tomato. Throw on a piece of sharp cheddar for taste and color.

Peaches? Ya want peaches?Image

We got your peaches
Image

Celery, Most of the time “if” you can find it at all is a bunch of 5 or 6 stalks of what looks to be picked before ready flimsy stuff.

This is what Celery is supposed to look like.
Image

how bout an onion?
Image

I know a lot of guys when they talk about “big melons” are talking about boobs but for me its cantaloupe.

Image

watermelons are just about par.

When you’re in your home country thinking about beautiful Asian women. I’m here with the beautiful Asian women thinking about:

OK, well that’s enough of that!

There’s more to life than fruits and vegetables.

There’s Sand & surf, boats and oh yeah little British sports cars.

Just happened to be a British car show in town, down at the harbor.
Here’s a few pics.

This is my all time favorite sports car. A 1958 MG A.
They only made these for 2 years, the 58 and 59.

Image

These were the days that engines were simple and anybody could work on them
Image

somebody snuck a Cobra in here
Image

There was the TD series again a MG product
Image

Image

Image

This is a Triumph TR6 I believe, I used to have the previous model the TR4. Was the first car I ever owned.
Image
Great for picken up chicks at the beach.

The infamous Jag
Image

That was a little harder to work on
Image

Image

Some odds and ends.

Image

Remember the Morgan
Image

Uh don’t remember what these were
Image

Image

An old Cooper?
Image

Image

Image

Image

Some of the big boys
Image

Image

Have any Grey Poupon old chap?
Image

Image

And I’ll leave it with this one. This car was guaranteed to leave the passenger with 100% whiplash if the driver hit anything.

Although different, I eat off the carts in the States too!

From one direction

to the other
Image

Beaches, beaches, beaches.

If I had a bottle of beer I could have made an advertisement
Image

OK, we’re almost through here.

I’m into beautiful Asian women.
My Brother? He’s into boats!

He’s traded up from a 32’ Sea Ray to a 44 foot Sea Ray.
Image

Image

I think I got just about everything on my have to have food list including a very good Ruben. For those of you that don’t know it’s lean corned beef, Swiss cheese sauerkraut. With thousand Island dressing on grilled Rye.
BTW Dryden in Subic has an excellent one and if the new owner changes it we may have to have a lynching. Just kidding Dave.

Also had some awesome Szechwan Shrimp, Weinersnitchel chili cheese dogs and a lobster and king crab dinner.

Sorry for the picture, the lobster was the first to go
Image

Well that’s about it till April when I have to go back for Mums 80th Birthday.

My fat cat and I thank you for your time and patients.
Image

BTW I did bring back 70 lbs of food with me to hold me over on those hard to get non existent Items we have none of here.

Say Good night Nub.

Image

Good night!!!

Bill, if you are a Veteran, look at the below. It's only a max of an extra $100.00 per month, but that's a nice dinner. Pete

If you've been in the military before 2001 you may be getting an extra 1200 dollar extra per year added to your social security. Subject: Social Security for Vets Please share this with anyone who's had active duty service prior to January 2002 and planning for retirement. In a nutshell it boils down to this: You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your military service, for active duty any time from 1940 through 2001 (the program was done away with in January
2002). Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit credited at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement. You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must ask for this benefit to receive it! Soc Sec website: http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm <http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm> This is something to put in your files for when you apply for Social Security down the road. It is NOT just for retirees, BUT anyone who has served on active duty prior to January 2002. FYI - this benefit is not automatic, you must ask for it!

Interesting post and great fotos. Can see why you might be a few pounds overweight.

Shafted once again on SS, served during the Korean conflict 53-56 so missed out on the veterans bonus.

Very enjoyable post, p369!

Great cars!

I did a long trip report on another forum about my last holiday in LOS, didn't think it would interest many here.

Good idea to do one in reverse.

Oooooh - why oh why can't they do PROPER farmers markets like that in the UK? Drool Drool. All we get are yuppy continental things with overpriced cheese and piles of sausages that look like dog turds!

I blame the 'elf 'n safety :guns:
