Brits abroad, they just don't behave

Here is an interesting article from the BBC:

The number of Britons arrested in Spain rose by almost a third last year, says an annual Foreign Office report.

There were 2,032 Britons detained from April 2006 to March 2007, up 32% on the 12 months before, figures showed.

Spain - the country most visited by Britons at about 17 million - also saw the highest number of lost passports (6,710) and hospital admissions (695).

The Foreign Office said many arrests abroad were due to "behaviour caused by excessive drinking".

Foreign Office Minister Meg Munn said: "The report highlights what can go wrong on holiday. It is a reminder to all that taking out comprehensive travel insurance is a crucial part of your holiday planning and not something that should be sacrificed to save a few pounds.

"We are concerned that drink does play a part in a number of situations."

Thailand had the highest proportion of injuries and deaths among Britons, according to the British Behaviour Abroad report.

We Brits have many embarassing examples of ourselves all over Thailand. Sometimes it makes me wonder, and these idiots screw it up for the rest of us. However, I think every country has their FUBAR bunch that make the saner members cringe, have heard this exact thing from USA, Canada, Australian etc guys aswell.

Maybe there's no wonder the locals think what they do about us, we are all lumped together apart from by those that really know us. Sad, but true. Maybe that's why the Thais just smile and take the money, doesn't mean they like us, just good for them too.

There are two separate threads here - there is the familiar 'moronic Brits on holiday in the sun' thread, and the very sad thread relating to the links Buksida provided - an awful story, and, dare I say it, there but for the grace of Whoever go many of us.

But I don't think the two threads are really related.
