For those of you lucky enough to have any coin in the bank Kasikorn are currently running a promotion on their fixed deposit accounts.
5 months at 3.8%, matures at the end of January.
Nothing to write home about but beats the meager interest you get in a standard Thai bank account.

Definately for foreigners also - had the bank phone me up yesterday pestering me to open account.
Not too sure whether this account is OK in terms of (retirement) visa requirements of 800000 in saving account (which apparantly has to be accessible 24 hrs for some stupid reason).
Even so, its worth a few bob being transferred to thid albeit only for 4 months
Also cannot seem to see what happens at the end of 5 months - scanned the terms and conditions but to no avail

The term runs for 5 months from the day you open the account, the interest is transferred back to your current account every month and so is the lump sum on maturity.

I opened one before and when I wanted to withdraw the money it was done there and then like a normal, no notice period.
What will happen when the 5 months is up is they ask if you want to continue at the rate applicable then. The one I had was 4% and then when the 12 months was up it went down to 2.2%!!
I'm sure theres a post on here somewhere from a poster who got refused based on it being in one of these fixed deposit accounts.

I had a problem with immigration in HH over this I had money in an investment acc and also a savings acc totaling over 800kb but immigration would not accept this and said it all had to be in a savings acc.
This is clearly wrong as their litrature on requirements for retirement visa states:
Clause 5 Proof of financial statement or pension
5.1 Certificate letter from a bank and copy of bank account (savings or fixed account)
But you can't argue themselves with them as they are a law unto themselves
They gave me a 3 month extention and said if I kept the 800k in a savings acc for that time they would then give me the remaining 9 months
I am still having problems with this, see new post
