I am intrested in starting a small business in Hua hin.Can anybody advise as to the best way to go about this?Is setting up one of those limited companies that is not actually a dummy but a real legit small business that employes a couple of local people the way to go? And of course there are questions about visas etc. If somebody could lay outin a step wise fashion how to do this I think a lot of people would be intrested.

I'm no expert but since nobody else has replied I'll have ago.
Obviously you're aware that the key to a successful business in HH is originality, bars, restaurants and guesthouses are a dime a dozen.
There are two types of company: 100% Thai and 51:49% foreign. They can be valued at 500k, 1mil, 2mil baht capital. If you wish to work yourself with a non-B visa and work permit you need the 2 million baht company, you also need to employ four Thai nationals.
As I say I'm no expert and its a bit more complex than this.

I really appreciate your taking the trouble to reply. I'm not intrested in a bar, restaurant or a guest house as you say there are already lots of these.What I was thinking about was a small shop that sold a selection of crafts collectables etc. that I would bring down from Chaing Mai. Sort of a mini night market in a shop catering to tourists who want a last minute gift to take home with them. I taught at Chaing Mai University for a year(finacial nightmare!) I've only been in Hua Hin once but it seems to ahve a fair number of high end tourists and I was thinking of making the shop a bit on the upscale side. Again thanks . Should I get a lawyer to help with this . From your reply it sounds like it is actuaslly possibleto do this legit. Thanks again. John

Hope not too late to answer your question. Coz my business quite the same business u want to do.
If u want to open small shop.its ok for first 6 months No one will bother u from goverment or Police any thing.. coz it legal business.
Not the same Bar business when u open the first day ..yeah....me also dont like that bar business..
normally they dont care much about small shop..normally if they come to see me. i will go to their office to pay taxes ...for personal tax.that nothing..
But cannt talk much in here. hehehe
but small shop for craft or Textile fashion or what ever u want to do..I loev it .. it is very good buisiness really. if u can find the right that different thing from the other shop.
so u lived in Chang mai for a while right..then u know all staff very well right...
I might go to Changmai myself soon...coz next months will be high season..Time to make money...hehehe
But in hua hin quiet slow for 6 months( if uwant to do business with farangs only)...But now hua hin going to have new shopping mall call Hua hin villageg..Market..( better to do business with farng s and thais..)
and i will have the shop there..yeah..and im sure Now i dont need to wait to high or low season...coz even low season still have Thai comes to shopping.
they chrage me 1,380baht/Sqm...i will try for a years...but Im sure it will good...
now i have small shop and, it goes well coz my merchandai so diffederent from the other ( need too ) other while u have to beat the other..and i dont like that..
and sale for up market not low market .it headach..for low market
when u have merchandai different from the other U can make Hight price...thing in my shop start from 600-7000 baht...
U have a very good Idea about small shop...That is the key for business In This IT world Now small but smart shop...and u can have many small shops like 7 eleven hahaha....

i worked with import & export before...I know well what the forigner Like and stye...I was export officer before.
