Cambodia's prime minister reiterated his call for a peaceful solution to a border dispute with Thailand, warning Wednesday that both countries economies would suffer if the conflict erupts into a full-scale war.
In his first public speech since winning national elections last month, Prime Minister Hun Sen said both countries must "narrow the conflict and expand friendship and cooperation."
Thai and Cambodian troops have been facing off along their shared border for three weeks over disputed territory - first near Preah Vihear temple and then at Ta Moan Thom temple.

Hun Sen said another meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers would take place August 18 in the Thai resort town of Hua Hin, where delegates would discuss plans to redeploy troops and conduct mine clearing operations.

The face saving meeting, I'm sure. Ironically the Cambodians want to sort it out all of a sudden after the elections, along with the Thai-bashing just before. It's painfully transparent, or am I just being cynical?
Both sides cannot afford to let it go south, none are in a position to lay it down, too much to lose by being nationalisticly(if there is such a word)beligerant.

A quite lengthy report on the (then) pending meeting actually hit the TV news here Sunday. Not seen an update yet, but it's rare to get any real news from SE Asia on our boxes. There hasn't even been much in the papers about the border situation.

It works on the voters tho mate, which is why Hun Sen and his Thai contempories ...currently SadSak ..... do it all the time.All I can say is that if they think we don't know what's really going on, then the are deluded.
Nice of them to admit they've been laying landmines..... should do the tourist trade in those areas a whole world of good, along with the poor sods who live there and have farms etc.....
Guess Ill be striking those two off my visit list then.
