Well Neil, that certainly aroused a lot of interest.
The fact is I don't think anybody gives a toss. So long as it is built as far out of town as possible and does not further damge the costal views.
It may bring if few more package holiday tourists into town and help out local businesses. It may also bring more mini buses and coaches with drivers who thinks that their vehicles are fitted with two feet extensions at the side.
Sorry to be negative, but when on the subject of development in Hua Hin I can not even motivate myself towards apathy anymore.

contd
I must admit it's not the most exciting thread in the world but it is quite important to me, for various and even more boring reasons, than i'd like to go into...
However, this 'is' a forum and this 'is' the "Accommodation" section of that forum, for exchanging information...right?
It may not be exciting for 'you' but hey....read something else.
Is it being built or not ? I heard it was going to be constructed equidistant between Cha-am and HH...???
------------------------
P.s. It never ceases to amaze how plastic ex-pats, who have placed themselves in HH and been there, in relative terms, for 5 minutes, seem to think that they own or belong to it and that their opinion somehow counts towards the destiny of HH, when clearly it doesn't and won't. Their opinion is neither, listened to, or wanted by the Thai/International businessmen, planning and building Hua Hin, into the international resort it will become....
I mean the longest serving 'Real Ex-Pat' is the golf society chairman in the bazaar and he's only been there what, 20 years? A mere drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things...
Plus these plastic ex-pats, with no job of work, (unless retired of course) cannot even reside in the country they are so opinionated about, for more than 3 months at a time...(unless they risk sending their pp out/marry a dodgy bird/or open a bar and become a pimp)
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
that a bit more juicy for yer

Neil,
It is really good to hear from somebody like yourself that has been living here for so long.
Some of us really struggle with understanding Hua Hin (or indeed anywhere in Thailand). The culture is different than what western people are used to.
I would like to know about Thai/International businessmen. I have had plans now for some time to build a large resort with a high rise block just south of Hua Hin but I can not get any of the locals to buy into it.
You obviously have the right contacts and knowledge of this business.
I appreciate what you say about the opinionated newcomers who have only been here for "five minutes", but the thing is that they are here and they have money that fuels the local economy.
I totally agree with what you say about westerners who can only spend three months here and think that their stupid opinions mean anything.
I have heard throught the Hua Hin grapevine though, that there are one or two farang that have lived here for many years and have married Thai nationals who they did not get from bars. Some of them even have adopted families and support them by staying in Thailand.
I honestly believe though that that is just a myth just to encourage farang to spend more money on a pipe dream.
I thank you for your contribution and would like the opportunity to contact you again with ongoing problems as you are obviously well clued upon the future of Hua Hin.

Yes - this is meant to be a forum.
Neal had a genuine question and didn't ask for the tirade of opinionated rubbish that was posted.
This used to be a place where helpful members provided useful information - now it seems to be a place where bored ex-pats do their level best to put down the so-called 'tourist'.
There has been a fair amount of comment regarding Thai attitude to farangs - some of the ex-pat drivel toward visitors shows even more of a bias.
Come on - let's get back on track and keep the 'foo' where it belongs.

Pete,
I do agree with pretty much most of what you have said but expat life is equally as valid as tourist life in a town like this. Hua Hin is a big melting pot of people from all walks of life with differing opinions, most of them we allow on this board. How dull would it be if the entire board was populated by threads asking "What is the Hyatt like in August?"
That said I think lomu and guess have had a bad week so please forgive them.
Back to answering the original question, there was an article in the Observer a long while back that read:
STARWOOD Hotels and Resorts is planning to put the Sheraton flag on a brand new hotel development in Hua Hin if negotiations with the owners of the site can be satisfactorily concluded. Starwood executives in Bangkok refused point blank to comment on the development, but they did confirm that Hua Hin was one of several places in Thailand where they would like to be represented. However, Hua Hin sources said a 250-room hotel was envisaged, along with a strong residential content which could be in the form of condominiums or villas.
The site of what will probably become the Sheraton Hua Hin is on the beach just north of the town. Although an opening date of late 2005 has not been fixed, a fast-track development is anticipated.
I think that date has been put back into 2006 though and I'm not sure exactly where it is as theres so much development going on up that strip. this site may have more info: http://development.starwood.com/

The Sheraton Blue laggon resort is due to open mid 2006 with 224 rooms.
A simple question and a simple answer. This forum has now sunk to the gutter, with posters thinking they are in control, its about time the moderators stopped all the promotional work and get down to moderating. We could do with stopping the 2am pissed up club Yes you know who you are or do we need a couple of guess's

Thank you Shadow for your accurate reply (as far as I know). The Sheraton logo isn't visible (to me!) as I go past the site but someone else has also said the same to me. On the issue of moderating, some of what you suggest has in fact already happened, but there are just as many complaints when a forum becomes 'over moderated'. The biggest problem recently has been the tendency for certain posters to take a previously interesting (or even totally dead) thread and take it off in a complete tangent of rubbish; however it needs the same poster to do this several times before we will, or should take action. However when a poster has also made meaningful contributions previously this has to be taken into account. If we jumped on someone the moment they spouted some rubbish we wouldn't last long!

Absolutely, it would end up a site with BG talking to himself.Wanderlust wrote: If we jumped on someone the moment they spouted some rubbish we wouldn't last long!We all have bad days after all...
Anyway I think the original question has been answered more or less. The 2 storey complex is being developed, apparently just north of HH airport right on the border which is maybe why can can advertise it as Hua Hin, Cha Am.
I.e. two different Amphoes and two different provinces.

Yes Peter, I am sure that all sensible people agree with you. In many cases here the ex-pats rely on fellow ex-pats and tourists alike to keep their businesses ticking over. When you and I go somewhere on holiday we become tourists, when we take up semi-permanent residence in another country we become ex-pats and when we live in the country of our birth we are locals. But we are always the same person.PeteB wrote:Yes - this is meant to be a forum.

There will always be a Thai attitude to farang and vice versa.
I have generally admired your input to this forum, as the level headed view of life as an ex-pat.
I have to point out though after reading this topic, at least six times just to make sure that I have got right, that the tirade of abuse first came from the originator of this topic who has in due course had his question answered in the manner that I am sure that you, and he, would have wished.
BTW to answer another critic, just because posters are active at 2:00am does not mean that they are pissheads necessarily. They could be in a different time zone or work on a late shift.
My belief, and I am sure that many would disagree as always, that the forum should bring people, both Thai and Farng, together. This should not end up as a shooting gallery. Also, especially, I like to hear from South East Asian people whose land we live in.
Any person on this planet who says that he/she is not opinionated is a liar.
I am on yellow card at the moment, so I had better shut the F**k up.
Keep it coming Pete. Your opinion is valued.

NO NO GUESS.
Please don't shut up.
You have a real good sense of humour and are a good contributing member of HHAD.
Keep on going. If you shut up, what's left here?
If we all are so damned serious about every printed word we, or others, make public, then I believe we all should think twice before posting.
Everybody should be aware of that the whole damned world can watch your post, and that people are different from you. If you can't take a hit, then don't post. This is off topic so I will probably take a hit for it.

Do you guys want to post some comments here? Look forward to Neils input since he has kind of sparked this all off:
