New Tesco Lotus

A brand new Tesco Lotus supermarket will be opening in Pranburi shortly.
It's on the left of the main road travelling south, at the traffic lights opposite the Police, Amphoe, Driving Licence offices.

Lets hope that they don't have that blxxdy 'Ding Dong- Ding Dong' followed by that infuritating girlie voice which gets repeated every 15/20 seconds. It drives me crazy, I KNOW I'm in Tesco's so why oh why do they have to keep telling me where I am - they definitely didn't do that in the UK.

You're right Cheshireman (can we call you Ched? It's easier!) No ding dongs in UK Tescos. Just the interminable announcement about preparing to push your trolley off the end of the escalator.

Anyone using one of those escalator thingies surely won't forget that they are struggling with a supermarket trolley as well?

Could be worse though - the announcements could be repeated in Polish, Urdu, Hindi, Cantonese, Albanian...

As far as the Pranburi Lotus is concerned, we were there the other day.

It's a Lotus. It sells pretty much the same stuff as HH Lotus. There were no smiley waiing staff all over the place. Mind you, there weren't any farang either

I remember from Walmart that the ding-dong type of announcements are aimed at staff, telling them that they are due for their coffee breaks or asking some sub-manager to call home or report somewhere for a problem.
Why, in this day of universal cellphones, it is necessary to annoy an entire store with information of interest to only one person I dont know. And why the ding-dong before AND after? Why the ding-dong at all?

They also run "up-selling" ads which are nearly as annoying. Anyone know Thai well enough to decipher what that girlie voice is actually saying? (Maybe it IS important after all!)

Haven't there been studies done which show that suitable music can enhance the shopping experience, encourage customers to take their time shopping and actually increase sales?

Think there was a thing called musac in my teens and early 20's Used to play marching songs in Waterloo rush hour to get the crowds moving. Used to play it to office typists and punch room girls at intervals to boost productivity. Thought in a supermarket they'd play something soothing to encourage you to linger and buy more

You have obviously not used Tesco in Slough yet M.

They do look after us there tough. The Tesco promise says that there will always be one English speaking cashier available.

No Guess - never been to Sluff!

Music wise - as mentioned above somewhere - there are still one or two supermarkets which play proper music. Unfortunately can't remember which! May well not have been in UK.
Tesco wise - what really bugs me is how they get those big dangly signs to sway from side to side. You stand perfectly sober and still at the checkout and feel all at sea watching them! (While waiting for the customer infront to rush off for something they forgot, or the cashier to get more change for the till, or while coupons are sorted, and points added for recycled bag use.) Theres just so much involved with a simple check out procedure - IT DOES MY FLIPPIN HEAD IN!
Give me Asda online or a little friendly Co-op any time

I read so many anti Tesco comments by a number of members that for the life of me I do not understand why they do not shop elsewhere. Their comments will most certainly not change the ways of Tesco.

I think you'll find that many of the people who live here aren't completely daft - if they use Lotus, it's for what they know they can get easily and relatively cheaply, then they go somewhere else where they know they can get what they want. The whinges, well mine at least, are about the fact that Lotus could attract substantially more farang customers (regulars) if they stocked a handful of specific products.

It shouldn't be rocket science, but for some reason it does seem to be here.

I'm afraid with me PET using Tesco now and then (no more than once a week) is a case of location, work and time. Being in a city centre after work on Fridays and sometimes needing the odd item which isn't available in the very small Sainsburys.
If I had a car would certainly go elsewhere! Also don't forget the stores do vary to suit the needs of the country they are in.
