Man City taken over by some Abu Dhabi crowd

Report says:

Manchester City have been taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, according to reports.
The website for Arabian Business claims that a deal with current owner Thaksin Shinawatra was completed on Sunday evening.
The former Thai prime minister has been looking for new investment in the club, despite taking charge just over 12 months ago.
Shinawatra has helped bankroll a number of big-money transfers in the past but, with his assets currently frozen as he awaits trial in Thailand, doubts have been cast over his long-term future at the club.
The Abu Dhabi United Group will be represented on the club's board by Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, chief executive of Hydra Properties.
Fahim said: "We will release details later, but this is a great event for both the club and Abu Dhabi.
"Our goal is very simple - to make Manchester City the biggest clup in the Premier League, and to begin with, to finish in the top four this season."

Bet he had no choice, the Prem have quite strict rules on owners. I'm sure his lawyers were advised by the Prem's lawyers that he better sell up.

In Steve's link the report says: "Mr Thaksin will stay on as honorary president of the club" ....... 'Honorary' that's like due to honor and in recognition of service and achievement and all that. What a joke.

A bugger for Chelsea though! I went to bed confidently expecting to read Robinho was ours by the morning. Hmm, so much for his rhetoric about wanting to play for Chelsea!

Oh well, money talks and it looks like there's a new kid on the block!!!

City have got the stadium and following for it. Manchester as a location is attractive for your big 'stars', if they really are going to spend spend spend, they could become a real force.

Well the owners saying he will spend whatever it takes, I think they've shown their intentions by signing Robinho. As everybody knows they bid for Berbatov, they also apparently bid for David Villa.

Unbelievable day for city really.

I just hope DIC get them yank T**Ts out of Anfield now.

Of course Man City fans will be delighted by this news, but they should be a bit wary of "Greeks bearing gifts", Man U and Liverpool fans are not totally enamoured with their foreign investors, Roman Abramovitch tried to buy Spurs before settling for Chelsea, will he pull his millions if Chelsea fail to win the Champions League? These foreign investors have no previous connections with their clubs and just view them as investment opportunities or prestige trophies, my own club, Arsenal, are trying to resist a takeover bid by a Russian zillionair, if he succeeds the spirit of the club will probably be lost forever.

That would be the Arsenal who play in the 'Emirates' stadium...?

for the next 15 years at least anyway, well worth it considering it brought in £100 million in sponsorship deals.
