If John Cleese was online he'd go for Pasta and Noodles on Sukhamvit

Wow - lot's of Sukhumvit places that I'm familiar with mentioned here.
I think the ambience at Cabbages & Condoms is better than the food to be honest. Nice enough but as my sister in law would say; "tum-mah-dah."
Soi 7 outdoor canteen mentioned by Migrant is indeed a great and cheap place to eat.
There used to be a stall selling pat thai with fresh oysters on Soi 5, just outside foodland. The oysters were so nice I OD'd on them once and combined with a bit of sun-stroke spent three days in a fever having the most vivid hallucinations. I learned my lesson.
How about Yong Lee? It's on the corner of Soi 19 (I think from memory) before you get to Robinsons walking towards Asoke. It's the rice and noodles restaurant with the shutters and closes early evening. Great moo-daeng, duck and noodle dishes.
A bit of a plug here: the after midnight open air stall bar & restaurant outside August salon between Soi's 5 & 7 is run by my brothers in-law!
Away from Sukhumvit, my first ever 'sit down' restaurant meal in BKK was at Baan Khun Mae in Siam Square and has a special place in my heart. It's larger sister restaurant, Bahn Khun Poor is around the corner and arguably even better food and surroundings with classical Thai live music gently tinkling in the background after 6pm.

I think Foodland is soi 5. The fish restaurant row was open whenever I went by, lunch and dinner times.
When we stay in Bangkok we normally stay on Sukhumvit Soi 11 so know about Zanzibar and Contrazzi which,I think,is next door to the German Brauhaus which also does excellent food and,at a reasonable price.
But if the wife ever drags you round the shopping malls theres a really nice restaurant in the Emporium called Greyhound.
Not too expensive and delicious food.....Thai and Western.

Thought I'd have a change for a change.

Good liver and bacon at the Beergarten Soi 7
Excellent Pork knuckle at the Beergarten
I am with Richard here, the vinaschnitzel at Biergarten is superb,I have heard that the place has been enclosed and had aircon installed so it wont be the oven it used to be.Open area across road is excellent for fish or seafood but can get hot and rowdy.
I always head for Uncle Nueay (Loong Nueay) near the Chang brewery- Nth of Bangers (pratunamprain) on the way to Bang pain and Ayutthya. Lake, fish, water lillies good tucker and a pretty companion with some entertainment (music) on most nights.

We went to the food court at the top of MBK center last time in BKK and it was pretty good. Lots of different type foods, I had a steak, salad and fries, wife had Thai food. We both liked it.
Indian food, veggie, japanese, etc all run with a ticket under the same area.
If you and your other can't agree where to eat, you can divide and conquer.
