Having had a nights sleep and a small thunk about this I must say that
Quote:
Among other things, Mr Abhisit has advocated free healthcare, a higher minimum wage, and free education, textbooks and milk for nursery-school children.

I am inclined to give the new prime minister the benefit of the doubt and say if these are genuinely his policies and he is going to take notice of the urban and rural poor and actually implement them (not a cynical set of words with no intention of carrying them out purely to quell the opposition voters for a short time) then there may be a chance this country may stabilize.

However having seen the 50 Years that the ruling parties (mainly Democratic party) have done jack shit for the poor I hope you will forgive me for wondering just who should receive the credit for this huge change in their policy.

Lets just hope Mr Abhasit succeeds in uniting this lovely country and its people for our best interests and more importantly for themselves.

I am a supporter of Democracy and the poor because ONLY Democracy supports the poor

Agree, lets hope we finally get a government that can look after both sides of the financial scales and at both ends of the country. Too many people forget that there are plenty of poor people in the south as well.

Anything has to be better than the complete mess and deep divisions within Thai society that Thaksin has caused. All hail "time for change"!

Buksi i had to have a lie down on my settee i had a funny doins you and me agreeing on politics

I do however have to say i am inclined to give Abhisit the benefit of the doubt and i am comfortable agreeing with you in our joint hopes :D

I am however also very realistic and can guarantee that if next week i see even a smell of PAD in his cabinet my benefit will be instantly removed puppets and puppeteers make bad government for everybody.

I realise the economy must be his highest priority but if i dont see him move on his promises as quoted within a serious time frame i will also remove my benevolence

Plus at the merest whiff of a snout in any trough then with certainty hostilities will commence in spades :guns:

anyway i luv ya really :D

Watched his speech in English on channel 3 tonight and seemed very possitive, good orator. Let's hope he's allowed to do and deliver what he was talking about.

Hopefully his age, and as consequence his thinking, will instill some modern approaches/attitudes in all government departments.

We'll see.

Now I'm being optimistic tonight Buksi!

In the current global economic and Thai political climate its about all you can be!

There were a few articles in the two English papers here about how he will follow the populist policies from the previous administration, and give a boost to SME's and tourism (which the previous admin never bothered with) so yes, there is still hope.

That's a little cryptic there richard, maybe you'd do a little better if you didn't post everything you 'just heard'.   :thumb:

Now we have the new PM having to meet with people who were recently banned from politics for five years to agree on cabinet positions.

I have never understood this 'banning' principle, Nevin is also banned yet he was instrumental in the party defections, Thaksin is an outlaw yet he can still make public announcements.

Maybe 'banned for five years' really means - we'll give you a red card for this match but you can come back and do what you like afterwards.

I was impressed by the fact he made his acceptance speech in both Thai and English....in other words he reached out to the international community. Hell he even apologised for the airport debacle....and spoke of reconciliation and a need to get Thailand working again.....impressed me.

Contrast that with the last two sorry examples......

At least this PM knows where Thailand is on a world map....and the fact that he needs to court the big outside world rather than look inwards all the time.

quote sargeant "I am however also very realistic and can guarantee that if next week i see even a smell of PAD in his cabinet my benefit will be instantly removed "

The new Foreign minister perchance who said taking over the airport and PADs actions were completely justified

quote sargeant "puppets and puppeteers make bad government for everybody."

Having already wasted at least an hour of his premiership with a call on tv for Mr T to come back and face the courts (hardly a unifying move) and now filling his cabinet with ex govt people who turned turtle and took bribes (again hardly unifying) i dont see anything good coming from this except that at least he has a sense of humour making his commerce minister the woman with the largest massage parlour in bangkok as her only claim to experience

Still lets wait and see
