Thoughts: Though I think IMHO he is the best man for the job this outcome will only cause more strife, the red shirted mob have already started kicking off on the streets on Bangkok and Thaksin won't take this lying down.
There may be trouble ahead. But while there's music and moonlight and love and romance. Let's face the music and dance.

The trouble has started ...
Red shirt protesters blocked access to the Parliament and threw stones at vehicles leaving the venue after Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva won parliamentary votes to be new prime minister.
They also threw stones and objects into the Parliament compound, forcing officials and reporters to cover themselves.
A reporter was injured after a stone hit stone hit his nose. The stones and objects hit many vehicles, breaking their glasses and damaged them. An anti-riot police suffered head wound after an object hit his head.
More police were deployed to the area. Police failed to calm them down. They had to use police with shields to push them back from the entrance of the Parliament. Then vehicles were allowed to leave the compound.
The red shirt protesters were known for their supports of fugitive ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, now-defunct People Power Party and Pheu Thai party.
Latest reports said that many red shirt protesters organised protests in many provinces of Thailand, mostly in the northeastern region, to protest the victory of Abhisit.

Some are even saying that he shouldn't be PM because he was not born in Thailand ... erm there is another big important fellow that also wasn't born here ... and Thaksin's family is more Chinese than Thai.

Don't know much about the new PM but as far as I'm concerned, he's like a breath of fresh air, if only because of his age. No offense to anyone on the boards but having a PM who is past the legal age of retirement is simply out of order.(only my personal opinion)
Of course the other good thing is that he has been educated in a somewhat different manner and with a little bit of luck, blue will be blue, red will be red, etc, etc, etc.
Hey, who knows, he may even try to encourage tourists coming here and would that be............................

Although we should remember that the words 'politician' and 'honest' should not be in the same sentence.Among other things, Mr Abhisit has advocated free healthcare, a higher minimum wage, and free education, textbooks and milk for nursery-school children.
He has also been a consistent campaigner against corruption.

A good summary of the twists and turns leading up to today's decision can be found on Asia Times Online:
Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, 44, was narrowly elected as Thailand's new prime minister on Monday, returning the opposition to power for the first time in nearly eight years and raising hopes for the end of a crippling national crisis. The Oxford-educated economist's immediate management of the economy will likely make or break his premiership.

No Buksi its true true true i was born in reading moved to Oxford age 4 and educated primary and secondary school all in the city boundary of Oxford therefore i am even more Oxford educated than the 27th prime minister 10 whole years before joining the army at St Giles road Oxford aged 15
Ill leave corruption to others, that seem to believe that it doesnt matter how you get to be prime minister as long as you get there.
Norseman sorry but i have to put you right there is no FREE health care its just 30 baht to see the doctor brought in by Mr T
FREE health care has never been implemented

There are no honest roads to the leadership of a country in Asia, I think that has been well established. Its what you do when you get there that you're judged on, so its time to see what the Dems can do.sargeant wrote: Ill leave corruption to others, that seem to believe that it doesnt matter how you get to be prime minister as long as you get there.
Don't hold your breath though, just keep hoping!
