Harry Ramsden is a famous fish and chip shop, whilst they have probably forgotten their routes, which had bus loads of people turning up at their door, it's still pretty good.

Yes of course we have arguably one of the Worlds best cuisines on our doorstep, but occasionally one needs a change.

The man who really introduced traditional fish and chips to the USA was Arthur Treacher back in the 60's-70's. He was an old English gentleman and the co-host on the Merv Griffin talk show (an early Johnny Carson type show). He's long gone and his franchises also probably. Pete

The arrival of the shopping mall in any community carries mixed blessings for the locals.

When Hua Hin Market Village opened, I was delighted.

A bit off topic but my favourite memories of going to the pictures was the Saturday Morning ABC Minors for the princely sum of 6d, think that about 2.5p - is that about 1.4 Baht?

Nando’s is the home of Portuguese flame-grilled PERi-PERi Chicken. Our Chickens are:

• Only the freshest, and never frozen
• Marinated for 24 hours in our natural PERi-PERi sauce
• Grilled to order over an open flame to reduce fat content
• Basted to your taste to control the spiciness

Apart from what someone personally likes or dislikes about these franchises I think the OP did not ask from a consumer point of view.
OP asked about business opportunities in Hua Hin before so I think the question is: is another franchise business in Hua Hin viable?

I certainly think it is. In years to come more and more farangs will settle permanently here and tourism to Thailand will pick up shortly as it has always done in the past. Thai spending power will increase, the local youth and the Bangkok weekend visitors alike. The market is there.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Hi there to all my HHAD Food affciennados.

Well One Franchise that I really loved very much and that should come to Thailand would be Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant & Market

Image

What I particular liked about this Restaurant is the Atmosphere of seimi Shrimp Comany and of course from things that appeared in the movie form which this Restaurant Chain was inspired of. I'm talkimng about the 1994 flick "Forest GUmp" Starring Tom Hanks and it's first Restaurant opened 2 years later in Monteray, California!
The NAme of this Chain was deprived from the 2 Main characters in this movie. Benjamin buford(Bubba) Blue which was an african American Soldier draftee who was befriended with F. Gump. whos family was in the Shrimpin Business and of course Forest Gump which has done soooo many things if you had watched the epic movie, which had reached cult status in the US know what I'm talking about.
Everytime I visit my sisters in California I hafta go eat @ BubbaGump Shrimp Co. Somtimes we hafta drive from SFV (San Fernando Valey to Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific where the nearest location was but after the opening of the Universal Citywalk location traveltime has reduced form a hour , 1/2 (depending on traffic) to just 10 Minutes.
My favorite Dishes @ that eatery in my holy own is.

Appertizers:
Shrimp & Salsa Cocktail
Shaken, Not Stirred! Chilled Shrimp, Cilantro, Tomatoes, Onion, Avocado, and Habanero Chiles are all "shook" up, and served with lots of homemade Tortilla Chips for dippin'.
and
Cajun Shrimp
Shrimp sautéed in our hot and spicy Cajun butter sauce that you can sop up with a helping of garlic bread.
Main dishes:
Fried Shrimp
Of course we bread our own! (Everyones Favorite)
and
Shrimp New Orleans
An authentic spicy recipe from our staff in the French Quarter featuring lots of shrimp sautéed in butter, garlic, and spices with jasmine rice.

The Menu mainly consists of Shrimp and other Seafood products. It features Southern style and Cajun cusine due to the Homeland of Alabama where Forest Gump came from.

As off Jan. of 2009 The Restaurant chain has 22 locations inside the US and 11 International location including 2 in Japan, 1 in Canada, Phillipines, Hong Kong and open for just a couple of years it's 1st. location in KL, Malaysia.

Why do I think Bubbagump Shrimp Co. would fit to thailand?
Well Thailand has an abundance of Shrimps so the main ingredience is allready there
Thailand or Hua Hin has not had a Southern US/Cajun Style cusine which maybe as hot as Thai Food.
I certainly would be a regular customer of this eatery that's for sure!

And for fast Food franchise I would propose the freshly made Burgers and Freshly cut fries in Store of In & Out Burgers which should come to Thailand ASAP!

OK, ok, The Understudy knocked out my post of not going to franchises when he mentioned in-n-out burgers here in California. BUT, the meat is never frozen, fresh cooked, the Understudy mentioned the fries.

It's not like a REAL franchise

Understudy,

You are dead on! I miss both of those as they are both very good franchises! You obviously spent some time in the U.S. :thumb:

I gave my response to the OP and will leave it at that.

BUT..... gotta reply to a few other posts.

Mags - I prefer LOS KFC to the UK version - am I doing something wrong?

Harry Ramsdens is a p**s poor chain of fish and chip shops in the UK. Well the ones in the cesspit called Blackpool are in any case. I will never cross their threshold again (or Blackpool, used to have to go to jollys, sorry, conferences there). Poor Harry must be turning in his grave!

Wimpy - yup, like their quarter pounder above all others, a wholemeal roll and unique sauce is a yummy combo, but stores are getting harder to find and some are run down (for our American cousins, this chain - Britains own - was named after the popeye character).
Talk is cheap

New Franchise?

Post by margaretcarnes »

Hi Caller - just watch out for the KFC chicken burgers out in the LOS sticks! I don't know how they compare with UK KFCs though. Never been to one here.
Certainly Pizza - is it a Hut? in HH compares very favourably with the UK version. Used to use the salad bar at the HH one and their menu is much more extensive than in the UK.
Wimpy and Wendys have both been mentioned and yes, both great, (is Wendys still on the go Pete?) But as pointed out both use(d) proper beef! And I don't remember Wimpey ever piling loads of unwanted pickles and slop on whether wanted or not. Beef - cheese - onion - that was it. They never sat on the serving hatch in a cardboard box soaking up grease and dill pickle!
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Dave ???, the founder died some years back of a heart attack, probably too many burgers as he was in his 50's I think. Someone bought them but don't know how extensive their network is nowadays. I did see them in N. California last trip back in 2007. Pete

Wendys is still plugging along. I don't think they are one of the strongest, but quite a few around.
