New Franchise

Post by canthai »

I was wondering what type of food franchise people would like to see in Hua Hin that is not already there.

Speaking for myself and not HH:

1) Traditional Greek/ME gyros place.
2) Eastern European, Hungarian goulash type place.
3) Melt in your mouth prime rib place.
4) Good corned beef and cabbage place.
5) A shop that specializes in imported cheeses and cheese cake.

That only takes me through Wednesday, plus good snacks and dessert. Give me time, I'll fill in Thursday through Saturday later. :D Pete

Lazerlab,

There is already a Subway in the little shopping complex where McDonald's is.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thanks Hhfarang ! Then i know where to eat lunch tomorow ! Strange that I have not noticed the Subway before, since I have been to Mc Donalds (same street as the police-station right ?) many times. I must be blind. I think I have to complain to the hospital that gave me a eye-lazer operation 2 years ago. :thumb:

Canthai,
One thing to consider with a franchise, like Subway the price you pay for a sub and a coffee you can get a whole meal else were and still have change.
For tourist walking back from the beach i suppose they will get some walk in trade,.
I have stayed at the Surin hotel opposit the little plaza a number of times and have never seen the plaza busy i have perchased a sub and a coffee there once, had a chat with the english guy that owns it and he offered t sell it to me so he could move on to Australia as a heavy diesel engineer, so i am suprised it's still there.

Kendo.

Its an interesting question! The big boys are already there in respect of burgers and chicken. I personally find subway disgusting, but live and let live? Is there a Pret A Manger yet? I read an article that they are still expanding and doing well, especially into the States and they have places in HK and Singapore.

A friend of mine has one eye to the future on a chain he can't believe hasn't yet reached LOS, so I'd best keep quiet on that. Mind you, his last business venture was to open a bar in Phuket the day before you know what, so it could be a bad omen if he ever got hold of the franchise.

Why do we need to turn Thailand into where we've come from??

Is any meal from one of these franchises affordable for the average local?

Its like Gordon Ramsey opening up a restaurant in every town and only the elite can eat there.

How anyone can shove KFC down their neck is beyond me

Right there Bluezephyr - last time I had anything from KFC in LOS it was only fit for the bin. Never again.
But Thais do in fact seem to flock to places like Burger King and MacD - at least the ones down from Bangkok for weekends do.
I wouldn't be sorry to see yet more franchises banned from HH though. Greek and Middle Eastern restaurants would be good, but preferably independantly run. The only thing in favour of franchises in LOS IMO is that they are usually - not always - run more efficiently, and therefore attractive to tourists. Who are often nervous of the local food places anyway.

One of the planet's great cuisines steps away and some people want pre-digested corporate chemical stews.

I rarely go to a franchise, and Southern California seems to have them all (but not Harry Ramsden, what is that??)

Most the biggies, KFC, MacDonalds, etc, I definately stay away (even though some are clients).

I always look for the independent, hole in the wall places. Not always overjoyed, but usually happy.

The rare occasion I do go to a franchise, it's usually a regional one with less grease!!

There are good and bad. I remember that Red Lobster used to be great, food and price. They may be gone now. Tony Roma's was I believe a prime rib franchise in the old days. Popeye's chicken also put KFC to shame. Perhaps gone also. Can't forget Wendy's for burgers. People in the midwest love White Castle, home of the slider! :D Pete
