Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
hmmmm....i once asked about flooding in Hua Hin and was told its doesnt happen...
Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
Thanks for the pics, its just incredible to see as nothing like that happens here and if it did the whole country would grind to a halt - you wouldn't see peeps on their motorbikes attempting to drive...
Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
Just got a message from the wife in North East Isaan
Roads washed away (dirt roads), paddys flooded, electric up and down, roof leaking, cold and wet and wood too wet to burn
glad I'm still in HH

They were right in the grand scheme of things, the garden was flooded for about 3 hours, then the sun and Thais were out jumping for joy catching fish in the roads, we even had one in our pool the next day, a good 10" longbladerunner2120 wrote:hmmmm....i once asked about flooding in Hua Hin and was told its doesnt happen...

That was the only time I've seen it that bad in my 6 years, (other nights 'sand bag' rain was a BigBoy holiday wind-up), although the first big downpours of the season usually cause mini-floods to certain areas, as all the rubbish/old ladies/dead dogs etc get washed into the drains and blocks stuff up.
Certain areas are flood prone though, so need to do some research

I've seen it knee deep in bintabaht and poonsuk and that was only about 5 years ago!Super Joe wrote:That was the only time I've seen it that bad in my 6 years
Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
I agree - I've seen downtown Hua Hin flooded to knee height and more for two or three successive days a couple of times in the last two or three years

Yes, the areas around that main cross-roads (coming from Burger King-left to Hilton-straight on to beach-right to Sofitel), are seriously flood-prone.Jaime wrote:I agree - I've seen downtown Hua Hin flooded to knee height and more for two or three successive days a couple of times in the last two or three years
Always assumed that's because it's the lowest part of the town (pun intended), or so it apears to be!?
FWIW there were new local regs bought in in in in 2008 about only being allowed to build-up new land by 0.3m (specific zones!?), seems to have be being implemented as 3.0 though

Yes, I've had to do my "mad dogs and Englishman" impression a couple of times whilst wading to the pub in the evenings.BaaBaa. wrote:I've seen it knee deep in bintabaht and poonsuk and that was only about 5 years ago!Super Joe wrote:That was the only time I've seen it that bad in my 6 years

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly...
Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
Photo taken a few hours after the rain stopped. A waitress at the restaurant across from Hagi told me water went as high as the sandbags only when trucks going down the street made waves. It looks to me that the wood to the left of the sandbags shows the high water mark.Super Joe wrote:Yes, the areas around that main cross-roads (coming from Burger King-left to Hilton-straight on to beach-right to Sofitel), are seriously flood-prone.

Re: Photo's of the recent floods?
Flooding in Hua Hin itself is generally very temporary, when the drains back up. But in '04, the Pranburi reservoir overflowed and took out the rail line and the prawn farms around Khao Sam Roi Yot.
