They wouldn't be of much use in fighting for 600 year old Hindu temples anyway!

According to the news this morning, it seems Yingluck made a bit of a cockup with her statement. Actually it is the purchase of 8 French Helicopters for the Thai Air Force that has been approved. Nothing has happened about the subs yet. Yesterday afternoon a Govt spokesman made a retraction statement on behalf of Yingluck

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

New navy chief also wants sub fleet

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... submarines

The new navy chief, Admiral Surasak Roonroengrom, says he will carry on his predecessor's bid to acquire a submarine fleet.

He said on Monday that under his leadership he was confident the navy would not get involved in politics and its personnel would be career soldiers.

The navy will have no problems with unity and it will strictly adhere to its duty to protect the monarchy, Adm Surasak said.

The new navy chief said it is the navy's desire to have submarines to protect the country's marine resources and to ensure a strategic balance in the region.

"I will continue with the navy's bid to acquire submarines. We have asked the German defence ministry to extend the timeframe for us to buy six U206A submarines so the cabinet can consider our proposal," Adm Surasak said.

He said the navy had tolower the cost of the submarines to 6,995 million baht from 7,591 baht. Submarines of the U206A type were suitable for use in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

"I hope the navy's proposal will be considered by the cabinet on Tuesday," he added.
