See, it's happening. That's why long ago I suggested to use the original BB, and BB Noi.

Very true NorsemanNorseman wrote:I really don't see the problem.
You choose to live in Thailand.
You also should know that snakes live here.

& the slithering ones are a lot less intrusive & dangerous than the two legged ones that reside in Thailand

Re: 2 snakes in 2 days
Don't know about the first one, but the second one is definitely a Malayan Pit Viper and nothing to mess around with.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

When in doubt throw out,the only good snake is a dead one??Norseman wrote:I really don't see the problem.

Why not try to learn something about the real inhabitants of Thailand?
If a one foot snake, whatever type, is enough to make you sit down in a corner shivering, then I very humbly tell you to learn more about these beautiful and helpful creatures.
The snakes have the right to live here, just like you and me, but they don't know anything about properties, borders and human behaviour.
It is NOT difficult to handle a poisonous snake if you have been trained to do so.
The most important thing you have to learn is;
What kind of snake is it? That means, read and learn.
How do I catch it? Read and learn.
If you still don't have a clue, go to the Thai Red Cross Institute on Rama IV Road in Bangkok and let them teach you how to do it.

I've got through about 6 in the last 2 months. Mainly cobras and long green ones. Will take a picture next time. The dogs usual alert us with constant barking in the garden.

NO. You are dead wrong.maccastime wrote: When in doubt throw out,the only good snake is a dead one??
The snakes was here before you were born so why on earth kill them?
You are free to remove them from your property, be my guest, but to kill them is just another example of no knowledge and information.
Read and learn more about the real inhabitants of this country and you will soon find out that the "aborigines" brain are smaller than yours.
Most snakes are very easy to catch even with just a broom as your "tool".
Study these amazing animals and you will find out that they do a great job.
Yes, some of them are able to harm you, but people who kills a snake without any kind of knowledge are just as stupid.
Yes I repeat it; they are stupid.
Why on earth would you kill an animal that is actually your best friend?
I'm not talking about the Vipers, Cobras, Banded Kraits or any other deadly snake, but I simply want you to absorb a lot more information about the good ones and the potentially fatal ones.
A 5 meters long Rat snake won't hurt you, but a 60 cm Malayan Viper will kill you.
It's up to you to know their family three and their behaviour.
YOU have the brain - USE it!!
Re: 2 snakes in 2 days
I agree with you Norseman.
If I know that a snake isn't dangerous, I try to chase it out of my yard before the dogs find it, even lock the dogs in the house if I have a chance while I do that. Cobras, which I've encountered a few of are generally not a problem unless the dogs corner them as they did the spitting one. They are very fast and are more than happy to jet away from humans. The only one I worry about a lot is that Malayan Viper because of their stubborn behavior, camouflage, and toxicity. I did allow that one in the photo I posted the link to to live as it was in a storm drain that I had built around my property that is covered by steel grating that would keep the dogs from getting at him and I made sure the wife new he was there so she would be careful in the area.
I feel bad every time I have to kill one and even the missus who is terrified of all snakes would prefer to get them to leave rather than kill them. The biggest problem I have is identifying them. The Malayan Viper I know very well and Cobras are easy, but there are many dangerous snakes that look exactly like some varieties of rat snakes (or vice-versa).
There is a little (thin but about a meter long) green and black snake living in our yard right now. He usually stays in the shrubbery somewhere and when he comes out or is very visible we just shoo him back into hiding before the dogs find him. I don't think (hope!) he is not dangerous:
Here's a couple of photos I made of him yesterday...

HHFarang,
I'm pretty sure that's an ornate tree snake or ornate green tree snake. I had one outside my bungalow in Phuket, and killed one
in my first house on Soi 80. GF and I woke up with it crawling down the wall!
If it is, it is mildly venomous but not dangerous to you or the dogs because its mouth is very small, its fangs are near the back, and the venom drips rather than injects. They are supposed to be rare, but I think not, as they constitute fifty percent of the snakes I've seen in Thailand.

I agree with HHADFan. Also called the Asian Flying Snake, the Chrysopelea tree snakes are nice to have around as they munch their way through countless ging-choks and tookays, they are pretty tame little guys and if you see one on the hunt they are worth watching to see them root out a ging-chok from it's sleeping place and then chase it down with amazing speed. Perfectly safe for most mammals bigger than a mouse, not so welcome if you are a small reptile !
I am unconvinced by the 'Baby Cobra' pictures and would suggest the OP check out Wolf (Lycodon) snakes, not dangerous at all and not really like a cobra either. Try this photo for a close match
