News source in the link above says the car had a Surat Thani license plate so most likely the driver was not familiar with the situation.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

The guards were supposed to be there on public holidays but as you say they did not last long!

maybee the guard fell asleep like many other guards.

jokes aside its a pity someone have to loose their lives becource lack off driving education or barriers.

even if there is barriers i allways take a good look as they not works every time.

Yup. A newish rule that one.

Like every other new rule though, the active enforcing of it will decrease with each week. As we are at a few months now it could very well have already faded into nothingness.

Remember the 90kph speed limit for minivans?

I've just been both ways across the Soi 94 Crossing. They have installed 5 new sleeping policemen in each direction, as well as boosting the existing 2 sleeping policemen in each direction. The new installation is such a distraction, I almost forgot to look for trains

Unfortunately, it is classic Thai engineering, and they probably won't even be noticable in a weeks time once traffic has been across them a few times. Hopefully this is a temporary measure pending some real barriers.

I've just come past the crossing again, and see that there are 2 police officers stationed there. They've errected a temporary gazeebo for them to shelter under, and there was a gang of workmen mooching around (hopefully getting ready to install a proper crossing).

They seem to be taking the accident seriously - I just hope these moves aren't until the heat wears off.

lets hope that the gang of workmen mooching around just not make a stationary shelter, but a prober crossing.

Just been past again, and the 2 police officers have been downgraded to a single security guard, although no expense spared - a 2nd gazeebo has been erected, and there is a large electric fan to help the security guard sleep.

Drove over the crossing yesterday from Petch Rd & the gazebo was still there. Strangely it is advertising Bangkok Hospital!! I've heard of ambulance chasers but.......

Driving back later towards Petch Rd there were several 'official types' with video cameras and they filmed as we drove over the numerous bumps & the tracks, concentrating on the wheels/ lower parts of the car until we were over to the far side. Made an exagerated stop before the tracks just in case they got the number plate :)

Maybe they are finally going to do something and instal proper gates.

Great Thai logic in the solution to this problem. The accident was obviously caused by the driver not being aware of an oncoming train. i.e. didn't look.

So now, apart from installing several 'sleeping policemen', they have erected a multitude of warning signs, flashing lights, and a couple of gazebos. All of these right on top of the actual rail crossing! So now, anyone who has the sense to look for oncoming trains have their view of the line each way blocked by signs and gazebos. Do we trust the little men who are there to warn drivers of an oncoming train. Surely, they have to stay awake for that!!!
