Well those are very British attitudes, can't say I know many Canadians, Aussies or kiwis who feel that way.
I enjoyed the day today. I remember as a small boy in Britain (I had dual nationality) Empire Day was a BIG flag waving holiday, then I understand they made itCommonwealth day and it all faded away.
The UK is one of the few countries with no National Day, I hear that the St GeorgeSociety is going to push for StG's day to be a holiday inEngland.
Curiously in Canada QueenVictoria's birthday is still a holiday, nearest Monday to may 23rd, in addition toCanada Day on July 1st

As a jocular aside.......... I am a Yorkshireman but could actually be half Lancastrian as I was born close to the border. I may have been conceived astride the border in which case which half of me is Yorkshire and which half is Lancashire?

Do any of us really know where we were conceived 'Ichard? Haaa - thought not! But that pie of JD's sounds great - shame we don't celebrate the day here in the UK in the same spirit as expats do. Here it almost went by un-noticed.
I haven't seen a single flag out, except for one nutter round the corner whose garden is a permanent shrine to all things dragon slaying!
