Re: Saint George's Day 2014
Well those are very British attitudes, can't say I know many Canadians, Aussies or kiwis who feel that way.
I enjoyed the day today. I remember as a small boy in Britain (I had dual nationality) Empire Day was a BIG flag waving holiday, then I understand they made itCommonwealth day and it all faded away.
The UK is one of the few countries with no National Day, I hear that the St GeorgeSociety is going to push for StG's day to be a holiday inEngland.
Curiously in Canada QueenVictoria's birthday is still a holiday, nearest Monday to may 23rd, in addition toCanada Day on July 1st

Do any of us really know where we were conceived 'Ichard? Haaa - thought not! But that pie of JD's sounds great - shame we don't celebrate the day here in the UK in the same spirit as expats do. Here it almost went by un-noticed.richard wrote:As a jocular aside.......... I am a Yorkshireman but could actually be half Lancastrian as I was born close to the border. I may have been conceived astride the border in which case which half of me is Yorkshire and which half is Lancashire?
No rude responses please and
I haven't seen a single flag out, except for one nutter round the corner whose garden is a permanent shrine to all things dragon slaying!
