Absolut is good vodka, try White Russian made of Absolut Vanilla, Kahlua and ice cold milk... :P

Smirnoff is good, as well as Finlandia ofcourse!

SKYY is great, and try Flagman Flagship Vodka too! :)

That goes without saying. What kind of Finn place would not have that drink. :D I also have salmiakkivodka or what we call "black vodka" here.

True, Imm. There's also a selection of homemade Finn food if you start to miss that.

I'm not a Vodka drinker myself, but I do recall getting smashed on some 'home made' stuff with the locals, in 1990/ 1991 new years eve, whilst living and working in Moscow.

BG was correct - in Russian, Vodka means little or no water - so by default it's full of alcohol! :P

It's great stuff when taken off of the balcony of your apartment when it's
-28 degrees and still not frozen. Instant central heating from within.

As for brand names, the most commonly available is Stolichnaya (made famous as 'Stoli' by Joana Lumley in Ab' Fab' the English comedy series on TV). Damn good stuff and available in BKK but not sure about here in HH.

The best but almost impossible to get outside of Moscow is 'Gold Ring'. This was a special concoction made for the Moscow Olympics of 1980 and still sold there.

Most interesting is Moskovskaya - made with many various fruit and spice types - e.g orange vodka, blackcurrent vodka, lime vodka and even CHILLI Vodka - which surely would go down well here with the locals

I haven't seen vanilla flavoured absolut, but I used to make my own flavoured vodkas some years ago. Maybe I should start doing them again.

Stoli's blurb. There are many Russin Vodkas it's just that this company has had more succcess in the export market.

While others have tried to imitate Russian vodka production techniques, they have never totally succeeded. There are three key elements that separate Stoli from its imitators. First, Stoli is distilled from winter wheat, which is the best tasting wheat, not from corn or other grains. Produced in Russia's oldest distillery, its is considered the classic Russian vodka. Second, virtually all domestic vodka producers use processed water to reduce the product to its proper proof, while the makers of Stoli use the purest, softest glacial waters. Last Stoli is carefully filtered through both quartz and activated charcoal, then through quartz again.

I have never seen Vanilla lavoured in Thailand, in fact the only flavour I have seen is Lemon.

However Vanilla flavouring is avilable easily in many outlets. One is the Chinese Supermarket in Chom Sin Road. You will get fairly close. Vanilla flavouring is fairly consistent around the world. Most of it comes from Asia although it is Mexican in origin.

Sounds familiar...I was in Moscow in 1987 and the hotel served up cabbage every night (boiled/soup/roasted... they were certainly creative, but cabbage is cabbage!). Still, there was a bottle of Stoli per person on the table and I have loved the stuff ever since.

Absolut Vanilla is definitley available here in Australia, so would pay to keep an eye out in the Duty Free on your next trip.
All of the Duty Free Shops here in Perth seem to push sales of Absolut very hard (more than any of the other Vodka's).
I normally buy Absolut or Stolli if I buy Vodka, but this time I have a nice bottle of Blue Lable Smirnoff sitting in my lounge at home waiting to be consumed.

There is a shop on the beachfront on the north end of Cha Am, that sells quite a lot of different flavoured vodkas including Absolut vanilla. Has excellent choice of many spirits.
