Totally absurd price and sadly an indication of the way things seem to be heading.

Not a big coffee drinker myself these days, I do like local coffee though occasionally, the milky sort of brew which is more prevelant in the South where my wife comes from, Trang in particular is very good for "Kor pee".

There is a lady who sells it early in the moring at the market cross roads (Where Moo seafood is at night) next to the Patunko sellers if your around early..all finished by 6.00 ish.

Oh yes...considerably less expensive too!

Hello All,

Having been in Hua Hin for 16 years 3 months and 27 days to this day I love the fact that I can go and get a really DECENT iced coffee when I want to.

Yes, it is well overpriced, ITS STARBUCkS, so if not in your budget toddle off and get the 20-30 baht iced coffee down the road.

I get sick and tired of going to a restaurant with my 'better half' and drinking a 'sachet on ice'!! I know when I walk into Starbucks I will be getting a quality coffee at an unreasonable price....but you can't get a coffee as good as that!!!

Thick squirty cream overflowing the glass, sprinkled with a belgium chocalate topping, sides layered with oozy chocolate mocha syrup........mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm.

Just depends what ya want in a coffee I suppose.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

Big Boy if u only had 3 coffee's I think u got done for service charge of some sort again because 3 people with a total bill does not equate to 460 exactly.

I know people say not to compare to what you pay in your own country but that is the equiivilant of about $5.00 aussie dollars each, and I can assure you we would not pay anywhere near that here.
Most times even in the city here you would pay at the very most $4.00,. but you can be assured at that price the quality of coffee would be 1st class.

With your comments about serve yourself, we have Starbucks here, but we also have a chain called the Dome, and the one of theirs that I have been into, it is top dollar and order at the counter (same as Starbucks).
I went once, but had two coffee's and a rather limp sandwich and cost me the equivilant of 600baht. I have never been in one of their shops again for that reason. Not so much the price, but the fact that you have to order at the counter and the sandwich was only like home brand bread (cheap and very tasteless) and for that price I expect service at the table.

Must admit I love strong coffee, and if I find a place that sells it how I like I will always go back again, but must admit I may baulk at $5.00 a cup.

Also I am sure that the Pizza Shop at the start of the road down to the Hilton does a mean expresso to top off a great pizza meal.

chelsea,

2 were with the cream as described by E-Dork - hence the non-divisible total. I think others on this thread have confirmed the extortionate prices.

Preferably a goodly dollop of scotch, a spoonful of brown sugar (Mary Poppins and the Stones in one phrase  ) and some real cream spooned over the top.

Bloody hell, now I feel homesick.
This is the way

I went to a Starbucks once in an airport terminal somewhere in the UK, I forget which one. I paid a silly amount of money for an average tasting coffee that came in a paper cup and they hadn’t even bothered to clean the tables. It was a sort of works canteen experience for ten times the price and so consequently I’ve never been to another one since.
I’d rather have a cup of tea anyway.

I too, went to a Starbucks once, and only once, back in the U.S. years ago. I wanted a simple cup of black coffee and it took five minutes to explain this to the counter person. They had it but under some fancy name. As in the previous poster's airport Starbucks comment, the coffee was average and the bill was ridiculous, even for the States, so I've never returned to any of their franchises.

However, I know coffee snobs who swear by it and won't drink a cup from anywhere else if there is a Starbucks within a ten minute drive. I don't get it but they do have their fans.

You are referring to HHD. I never go there with her, unless i'm really in the dog house, then she knows I'm contrite. :thumb: It's a hell of a price to pay though. :cuss:

speaking of prices, I dont get a lot of this bitching about the price. Price is posted. Should be no surprises if you do the math. Last time I was there a simple coffee of the day was 80 baht, way way too much, and if you juice it up with whipped cream, etc you get double the price or more. Kinda like cell phone, basic phone 850baht, get a camera in it and other bells and whistles, 5 or 10 thousand.

personally i cant see spending more for coffee than beer   or olives.

At Starbucks, part of the exorbidant price problem may be what you order. . . i.e. "a medium roast" may leave them free to give you some high-priced blend. I always order a "daily drip, small" and it's always 55 baht.

Strangely enough BB the prices in Starbucks in the UK probably aren't much different. I went to the one in Lincoln shortly after it opened some 3 years ago. Terrible service. Orders mixed up, and to be honest at 2 quid or so a cup no comparison with the much nicer Stokes outlets.
Then again - I like to taste the coffee. Not the milk, squirty cream and sprinkles. IMO not only are they overpriced, but get away with a weak brew disguised as somehting supposedly 'trendy' :guns:

I can remember my parents taking me for a cup of tea in Lincoln in a café above the river; I don’t recall the name of the place but it was much nicer than Starbucks.

That's 70% more than they charge in Australia (I've only tried them once, and not impressed). The stall at the bus depot does an excellent latte, cappucino or any other way, can't remember what I payed, but cheap and good. See you in July.
