This could get really out of hand.A bomb exploded inside Thailand's Government House compound at 11.50pm on Saturday, wounding more than 20 of anti-government protesters.
People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) reported about 20 people injured, of which three are in serious condition.
The bomb, reportedly M79 type, exploded just 200 metres away from the PAD's main stage inside the Government House.

easy case for the police to solve. this is the same situation as the farang/condo balcony in pattaya. its clear that this was a mass suicide attempt by PAD members. another case solved.

What I can’t understand is why the police haven’t moved in behind the PAD and retaken Govt House. Should be reasonably easy with most of the rent a mob at the airports, an armored car through the gates followed by 20 or so trucks full of cops at about 2AM, round up everyone that is there and take them in the trucks to Police HQ where their ID’s and photos are taken then they are given a choice.
Go home and don’t join this lot again or be charged with whatever offences the cops have dreamed up and go to jail to await a court hearing, there are a lot of you so it could take a couple of weeks or possibly a month to arrange a hearing. Any of them who have put up any armed resistance would be given no choice and straight to jail preferably in some place well away from BKK like Udon where we have spare cells.
At daylight an army squad could take over to guard the place in case some PAD idiots wanted to try to get back in.
All the PAD gear in Govt House would be confiscated and taken away, don’t know what is there but this would rob them of probably cooking facilities, communication gear and of course a HQ. It would be a great psychological blow to the PAD and for the Govt at no great cost in either lives, injured or money.

robby,
There is only one slight flaw in that plan; neither the army nor the police want to do it. This government has lost control of the country and should be voted out in a no confidence motion, or ousted in a coup - to my mind these are the only solutions currently available, unless the PAD voluntarily end the protest, which I actually think might happen, to honour the King's birthday on Friday, as well as to avoid a bloody confrontation with the pro-government gang. Given that the courts are likely to end PPP as a political entity this week anyway and the government involuntarily dissolved they really should now step back, as they have done all they can to focus the media's attention on the issues. Just a bit unfortunate for them that another huge story eclipsed them. The media storm on Mumbai is dying down now, so I predict that the PAD will announce and make a high profile withdrawal in the next day or two. Their leaders are savvy enough to know that continuing the protest any longer will not benefit their cause.

This is the way forward for sure if you want to start a civil war. The problem is that the "rent a mob" otherwise known as MIB do not all have their hearts in it and a fragmentation could occur.robby hh wrote:What I can’t understand is why the police haven’t moved in behind the PAD and retaken Govt House. The army would almost certainly obey the wishes of the King.

i could not agree with guess more, and that doesn't happen very often.!!
the airport would become the new PAD head quarters and i don't think that the mib could move them even if they wanted to. as wanderlust said in a couple of days the ppp will be no more anyway.
great post by super joe summing up the situation perfectly. the events of the past week just confirm to me that this country is an absolute basket case.

What I can't figure out...................
The PPP get shut down. New elections take place. A new government gets into power. They were voted in so PAD go back to the airports again. The new government gets booted out or resigns. New elections are held and a new government gets into power. They are voted in so the PAD go back to the airports.........................give me a break please. So what is the solution? How the bloody hell should I know? In fact, I don't think there really is a solution which maybe is a good thing because then we can all keep living in the good old Thailand as we know it............lol

Takiap,
Assuming the PPP are disbanded and banned from politics, it will be expected that a new Thaksin backed party will form to contest new elections; however it is probable that the courts and judges will know this (I would hope) so if they are allowed leeway in their judgements then they might put in place some mechanism to prevent Thaksin funding any new party - what and how I don't know, but it seems to me that some sort of block must be imposed to prevent what we are seeing now happening again. While there will still be corrupt officials and politicians, and an imperfect voting system, the shenanigans that have gone on with both sides since Thaksin came to power go beyond the pale and have been utterly against the interests of the majority of Thai people; the previous corruption was a drop in the ocean in comparison. Whether Thaksin really does have an end game in sight where he (or a crony) becomes the President of the Republic of Siam I don't know but it certainly seems like a possibility, and one which I find very unpleasant, given his track record. Someone said earlier that they couldn't understand why his fan base would continue supporting a convicted criminal, but I guess that they would see the conviction as being unfair or biased, and this is where the spin, hype and control of the Thai media he had/has comes in; even now he is getting his message out. While the PAD's airport takeover is calamitous for Thailand I am guessing that they also view the President Thaksin scenario as a very real threat, and when you put it in that context what they are doing is very understandable, as that would likely mean the end of Thailand as we know it, and the super rich elite would just be divvying up the proceeds I'm afraid (even more so than now). If I say Mugabe, that is the sort of threat I think Thailand faces if Thaksin gets his way.

Just woke up and listening to Sky News. They are predicting an early end because the Thai Police have now threatened to fine anybody found to to be in a group larger than 5 people.
I guess that must have the protesters trembling in their boots, so it'll all be back to normal tomorrow
What is the media on?

That kind of statement doesnt do you justice.
Are you saying that Thaksin would (in no particular order) :
get a bunch of north korean troops to train his own and then send them to the towns of his coalition partner and kill over 20,000. ? (infamous 5th brigade and Matabeleland)
take property from foreigners
have inflation of 50 million %
life expectancy of 37 years for men and 34 for women (lowest in the world).
No food in the shops
International aid suppling daily needs
etc etc

I hope the PPP does get dissolved on tuesday, and I agree with the conviction of Thaksin. So when do the charges against the PAD leaders get heard? There current actions are not only criminal but also highly dangerous and damaging to the whole country.
Jail the lot and get some forward thinking university students to come up with a new voting system and lets keep our fingers crossed.

A piece history from John Toland's "Adolf Hitler":
“Although the Bavarian police president informed Hitler that these demonstrations were banned, he defiantly shouted that the police could shoot if they wished but he himself would be in the first row.
The following day (28/01/23), again flaunting a police ban, the trooping of the SA colors took place on the Marsfeld with 6000 storm troopers shivering in the snow. Some wore a uniform of ski cap, brown jacket and leggings while others wee in business suits. There was a varied array of flags with swastikas of various sizes. It was a motley group, but once called to attention, the men stood as rigidly as if they were elite troops of the Kaiser.
Hitler’s defiance of the police brought a number of middle-of-the-road leaders to his side. …….. More significantly, it lowered the prestige of the Bavarian government itself. In his first serious confrontation with the establishment Hitler has come out the victor.”
