They most certainly do- would advice anyone leaving for the airport to start from BKK 3h before flight leaves - the 4 lane road was brought down to a 1 lane road twice before reaching the airport, tons of police at both stops + at departures of airport. I left BKK for HH at 4pm today

There were chaotic scenes at Suvarnabhumi airport southeast of Bangkok, gateway for the 13 million tourists who visit every year, as hundreds of riot police guarded entrances to the $4 billion terminal.

Only a few hundred metres away, thousands of PAD supporters waved plastic hand-clappers, flags and portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and slung razor wire across the four-lane access road.

"Our goal is to shut down Suvaranbhumi airport until Somchai quits," PAD spokesman Parnthep Pourpongpan said of the protest.

Your not joking.

Bangkok's international airport has been closed after anti-government protesters surged into the main terminal building

Operator Airports of Thailand shut down Suvarnabhumi airport indefinitely, a spokesman said.

"We have already informed the airlines who operate from it," he said.

"Flights in the air will be diverted to either Chiang Mai, Phuket or other airports, but it closed as of 9:00 pm (1400 GMT)."

At least 2,000 supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) had surrounded the airport as part of their six-month campaign to oust the government.

Police Colonel Theeradej Chanurak, a senior police official responsible for the airport, confirmed that protesters then entered the terminal.

"Some of the protesters have entered the terminal buildings. They walked towards it while police tried to stop them but could not do anything as police have received orders not to use any force," he said.

This is a very dangerous development as closing Suvarnabhumi causes an international problem that is too large to ignore.
They will have to get the airport open again by tommorrow or suffer a huge loss of international confidence.
