sandman67,
You have spoken the words I have found so hard to type..."Government should fear its people".
Not the case in the West for sure, only around voting time.
While some blame PAD for this situation, others see that sometimes in order to clean out the bad some good is lost too. Since we all know that Thaksin is crooked without argument and the government is obviously closely tied to him (by marriage) then shouldn't it be obvious that this government is crooked also?

I thought the PAD were the frontline of the 'machine?'sandman67 wrote:here the people.....no matter how small a minority you think PAD represent.....can defy "the machine"...and I think theres a groundswell of sympathy.....

Just not the one in power, which I guess is the problem?
A link to a Human Rights group elsewhere on this forum, calls them fascist.
Here are some folks defying the machine (nicked from a UK forum):
I hope that's not what's in store this time.
Talk is cheap
So far, the main attacks on each side have been started by the UDD. They are obviously more inclined to resort to violence and are backed by a government who resorted to violence to get their way ever since Thaksin got into power...War on Drugs - how many killed??? Was it Hat Yai where the Muslims were piled on trucks, bleeding ones on the bottom.
The only human rights violated are by the government and UDD. How easy people forget.
The Economic rights and "tourist" rights of the West violated have been from the PAD.

No disrespect, but are you watching the same events that are happening now? Did you not see the PAD gunman firing?cozza wrote:So far, the main attacks on each side have been started by the UDD
What about the rights of an elected Govt. (however flawed) to be allowed to govern?
Is anyone, anywhere, still in denial that this is now nothing other than a carefully orchestrated and supported 'putsch'? The frontline being those demonstrating at the airport and elsewhere?
If you support that - and you're not alone - then fine. But lets not kid ourselves this has started as some sort of peoples movement.
Talk is cheap
caller,
No disrespect taken, I have seen the exchanges of pop guns and slingshots and even the kicking of government supporters on the ground. That is all in defense though, and though some may argue they should not be there and may be right, still, the attacking group is the UDD. Simple, do the PAD go to the UDD areas and attack them at their rally? No, the UDD go to the PAD camps and throw bombs and grenades at PAD protesters.
So, the instigators of violence are the UDD, because the army and police are not doing anything the government have resorted to thug tactics.
Not a peoples movement? I guess supporting a corrupt government is a peoples movement then? Or is this just another broken down example of why Democracy does not work in the developing world?

And this tragic news comes in right on cue. Everyone is too polarised.
It's gonna get nasty, think we'll learn soon who has the most clout:

maybe while the yellow shirts are home having a shower, the red shirts might move in & take up residence at the airportkellyt wrote:Game set and match to the yellow t-shirts! PM has stood down and cargo flights to start to take off again today. The yellow t-shirts are making their way home for a shower and Kelly has her fingers crossed the airport will be fully up and running by the 4th in time for her flight to land!

i'd like to think that this is game, set & match, but unfortunately don't, far from it in fact

whilst I have little sympathy with PAD I have none for the DAAD
one side in yellow does get violent on occasions - these are usually when they have been attacked or provoked....and that includes the actions of the police officers who were detained. The yellow shirts are mainly using catapults, sticks, and the odd hand gun.
On the other side of the fence we have an almost paramilitary red shirt lot who routinely resort to extreme violence. In the north they murdered an old bloke whist police stood by and watched. In BKK they launch almost nightly attacks using m79 grenade launchers, home made bombs and assault rifles. They have support and training from rogue army officers.
One side fights against corruption...the other wants to encourage it.
Both are equally guilty for the polarised mess this country has turned into...
but the ones in yellow still hold the moral high ground in my book.

I don’t want to dampen your spirits but even if the PAD went home this afternoon, which I don’t think is very likely, it could still take some while to get the airport open again.kellyt wrote:Game set and match to the yellow t-shirts! After something like this has closed the airport, they will have to go through the procedures of getting it re-certified by the international aviation bodies which could take a few days.
Yes, that is exactly correct, probably more.STEVE G wrote:I don’t want to dampen your spirits but even if the PAD went home this afternoon, which I don’t think is very likely, it could still take some while to get the airport open again.kellyt wrote:Game set and match to the yellow t-shirts! Suvaranbhumi to resume in 7 days, if PAD leaves:
(BangkokPost.com) - Airports of Thailand (AOT) acting president Serirat Pasutanond said Suvarnabhumi airport could resume operation in about a week once the anti-government protesters led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leave the airport.
Mr Serirat expected it would take authorities approximately seven days to check the readiness of Suvarnabhumi once the protesters leave.
He said 88 aircrafts stranded at Suvarnabhumi are gradually being released to transport the remaining passengers from the U-Tapao airport in Rayong province.
AirAsia announced that the airliner had arranged special flights from Chiang Mai, Phuket and U-Tapao airports to more than 10 destinations to facilitate stranded passengers. People can log on to www.airasia.com for further information.
Thai Airways also offered 14 outgoing flights from U-Tapao, one flight from Chiang Mai airport, two flights from Phuket airport, 16 incoming flights to U-Tapao, a flight to Chiang Mai airport and two flights to Phuket airport.
