Actually that's not a bad idea. There are mini self storage unit franchises all over America and they do a very good business. You can rent a space (which you lock and keep the key) from a small locker by the week to a 4 by 4 meter room to store furniture or other belongings in between moves by the month or for as long as you need it.

When we first moved here, I shipped a 40 foot container full of furnishings and personal belongings. I had to rent a bigger house than we wanted for a couple of years just to have extra rooms to store stuff in until our house construction was completed because there were no storage units for rent.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The Official Slogan of BubbaGump Shrimpin Co. is an actuall quote by BUbba himself:
like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

Hey hhfarang

this storage space rental that you where talking about I was also thinking about this for a while. Many of foreigners who moved here yep yep just as in you case have no place to store them. this could be a solution to this problem. But what I'm afraid of is that criminal Thais are using these storage facilities to store stolen goods and wait til the dust settles before getting rid of them. I'm sure people who are openning such storeage facilities are writing their T&C's (Terms and Conditions) to prevent this stuff.

Maybe we caould see Image this sign all over Thailand someday.

And midsize sotrage spaces could look like this

I'm surprised the "architect" who designed the santa monica extravaganza did not colour it pink and have it shaped to look like a big prawn!
Would definitely fit in with the HH aesthetics.
I gather shrimp = prawn??

Having a nerd moment .

Arthropods can be subdivided into several classes, one of which is the Malacostraca.
This class contains about half of the crustaceans. The members of this class have a primitive body plan that can be described as shrimp-like, consisting of a 5-8-7 body plan. They have a small carapace that encloses the head and the thorax, and have a muscular abdomen for swimming. They also have a thin exoskeleton to maintain a light weight. These general characters are common in all members of the class.
The class can be further divided into the Decapods, which are even still divided into the Duedrobanchates (prawns) and the Carideans (shrimp and snapping shrimp).
The prawns have sequentially overlapping body segments (segment one covers the segment two, segment two covers segment three, etc), chlelate (claw like) first three legs, and have a very basic larval body type.
The shrimps also have overlapping segments, however, in a different pattern (segment two overlaps segments one and three), only the first two legs are chelate, and they have a more complex larval form.
Biologists distinguish the true shrimp from the true prawn because of the differences in their gill structures. The gill structure is lamellar in shrimp but branching in prawns. The easiest practical way to separate true shrimps from true prawns is to examine the second abdominal segment. The second segment of a shrimp overlaps both the first and the third segment, while the second segment of a prawn overlaps only the third segment.

Over it now .

New Franchise?

Post by margaretcarnes »

You're right Alf and I also considered a storeage business about 6 years ago. It has in fact been discussed on an earlier thread.
As well as the usual Farang Business in Thailand problems (not insurmountable) there weren't the numbers of farangs relocating with all their worldy goods to HH then. Much of the trade would have been aimed at those going home for a while. And large items like furniture etc are often so cheap to buy in LOS that disposing of it could be cheaper than paying to store it.
Also - there was a lack of suitable warehouse style premises. Issues of security and insurance. And not least concerns about what ever else might be concealed in stored items, if you get my drift!
Although there is probably more demand now from the 'incoming' expats to HH, and storeage could well be viable, I would still be very wary that storeage facilities could be abused.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Yes sad when you think people will travel 12 hours on a plane to eat a meal, that they can get in their own home town.

We were in HH in 2003 when an American fleet was giving their crew some R&R there.

To a man they were all queuing in and around McDonalds chomping on burgers and chips!!

With all the fantastic food around them they chose that.

To all you fast food lovers out there, I'm not against Mc D, Iv'e even eaten it myself on occasion but not when there is such a choice of food as there is in HH.
