Re: Train Crash Soi 94
The guards were supposed to be there on public holidays but as you say they did not last long!
maybee the guard fell asleep like many other guards.
jokes aside its a pity someone have to loose their lives becource lack off driving education or barriers.
even if there is barriers i allways take a good look as they not works every time.
I live next to a rail line in the UK, and have to regularly cross the line, which has automatic double barriers. And yes - the barriers also fail here as well. Perhaps more often than you would think.
But there is a difference. When the barriers here fail to drop in time, the oncoming train is stopped before it reaches the crossing. The lights on the line stay red until the barriers drop, and no doubt the train drivers also receive alerts from a controller.
Just a thought - and no doubt a pretty stupid one - but why doesn't that happen in Thailand?

Re: Train Crash Soi 94
IMHO the situation at the Soi 94 crossing has gotten completely out of hand now. Speed bumps that make you slow down to a crawl, up to 6 guards at a time signalling to drivers to go faster and cars swerving on to the wrong side of the road trying to avoid the guards.
There are so many distractions there now, combined with motorcyclists being the numpties that sitting on a motorcycle naturally makes them, it is becoming increasingly difficult to look to see if a train is coming.
This is another disaster waiting to happen.

I don't see any problem.
Nobody from a wealthy Thai family has been killed.
Only ordinary people.

According to the missus; the recent fatality is son to a senior councillor in H.H.
Maybe we will see a barrier this time?

I would think it is inevitable looking at all of the activity there. However, when I went across this morning, there was only one guard, and he seemed to be dozing.

My my. How dare they change the rules from 30 years ago. I was in Thailand over 40 years ago and it was a much different place then which is to be expected.who would have thought that a busdrive from the airport to hua hin could imprisson you in 6 month,10.000 bath fine or both for drinking in the bus,not me when i was in thailand first time 30 ago, would you ?
Who would have thought years ago that you would be fined for smoking in the wrong place in the UK.
You must be stuck in the past. Time to move on!
Anyway, as you say...... back to topic.

Re: Train Crash Soi 94
When they were putting in the first speed bumps, one of the construction workers was trying to wave me through on my bike and seemed most upset that I choose to ignore his gestures and wait until the car which was turning right in front of me, at quite a speed, had completed doing so. Had I followed his instructions he'd have waved me straight into an accident!Big Boy wrote:IMHO the situation at the Soi 94 crossing has gotten completely out of hand now. Re: Train Crash Soi 94
HHTel mentioned the signs & Gazebos right in your line-of-sight..I find this scenario at every road junction in this country..it could be a good marketing ploy, but everytime you need to see what's coming there's a great sign clagged to that lecky-pole on the corner!..& it's always at driver's height.
The one thing on Thai railways I'm amazed at is that 'service trolly-thing'..it flies along with 2 men on board, no lights or any form of horn & never ever slows down for the Soi94 crossing.. TIT eh!

So you're to blameusual suspect wrote:HHTel mentioned the signs & Gazebos right in your line-of-sight.

Went through there earlier, and the Gazebos have been taken down. The Gazebo covering is now being used as a mini-tent, which the guard(s) are huddled under. You can see what's coming now.
