Quick question...

Is the VIP bus the best way to get to Hua Hin from Phuket?
(don't fancy 8-10 hour coach ride )

If so where do you get the VIP bus to Hua Hin? Can you get it from Phuket airport? How much is it?

Another option for us is to go to Penang this year but really want to come back to Hua Hin...

I always used to fly but the bus wasn't as bad as I thought. Posted this in another thread...

'Why not get the gov't VIP bus from Phuket bus station? About 1100 THB, takes 10 hours. A paid for a 24 seater which I think is the number of seats on the upper deck, so if the bus says 30 Seat, it's still okay (please check if it's an issue). Seats are wide, recline and more comfortable than an economy flight. So you can sleep. Stops at the clock tower in HH. Offloads you for a meal half way. The first time I booked with Western Travel in HH they added around 400 THB. I think it was the same bus, so just book at the bus station or by phone. Others may have the same idea so book early.

May not be relevant but you save an o/nt accommodation charge and if you add up the hassle and costs of flying/transport, I'd say the bus is worth the extra few hours, especially if you do actually sleep.

Hmmmm. Bangkok airport to resume 'normal' operations huh? Whats normal! As folks are saying things seem to vary according to the airline you are with. Understable really with a load of people still to retrieve from LOS.

I've a return to UK for 11th with China Air. Enquired yesterday at an agent (because stuff in the BP advised people to give their phone numbers to their carrier.) Was told that China Air aren't giving out details until Monday. Fortunately unlike Jim and others I don't need to be back for work, and the visa is valid for another month or so. Its a mai pen rai thing, but would be nice to know which airport is best to station yourself near!

I guess that by the 11th things will be working ok, unless anything else happens.

I fear though that Swampy's role as the SE Asia hub will change forever and that getting to/from LOS will be much more difficult forever. KL has loads of capacity, like loads and loads of spare capacity, a really good rail link to the city etc etc. I guess that lots of airlines will look to switch their SE Asia base to KL instead ie why would EVA bother with Swampy as its stopover to Taipei when it can use KL instead?

BTW beers at KLIA are about £8 a pint at the current exchange rate. HK is cheap at only £6 a pint

Just seen something on TV about flights from HH to KL

Anybody know anything about it?

Well it looks like BA will start to fly from London into BKK from Sunday night. So looks like I am on my way

I spoke to BA today about our flight from BKK to LHR on 10th December and was told that it was going but to check frequently; I heard from someone else that the problem at the airport is that the automatic landing system was broken so pilots had to land manually (not that that should be a problem) so I am guessing that there might be some regulation that relates to this causing a delay? Maybe less planes can land in a specified time because of this?

I guess you are talking about the ILS system, the instrument landing system.
If this system is down then all planes will be separated in accordance with the visual approach guidelines.
That means each aircraft have to keep a longer distance to the aircraft in front of you, thus creating a slower flow of traffic.
