No need for support but thanks for your concern.
Well, for a start you don't know they are self-obsessed, nor millennials, nor that they play graphically violent computer games. And I doubt very much that the courts are pandering to them. But of course, you came from a generation of honest coppers who kept an open mind! Anyway, Enjoy your retirement.

In both cases, the police and the people checking for illegal content both know that this is what they are likely to encounter as part of their job. It doesn’t mean that they won’t be affected by what they see, but nobody forced them to take the job up, so IMO, compensation should not be made available, just support

Well again, you don't know that, do you? Especially the folk employed by facebook. And you are woefully out of date with employment law and The Police in particular, would be slaughtered if they didn't provide the level of care the law requires.

The reality is that the World moves on and expectations change. I'm sure my old man would have been much better after WW2 if he's been treated for the PTSD that affected the rest of his life, instead of simply being given a de-mob suit, small change in owed salary and a shake of the hand and a cheery 'good luck son'. And there were hundreds of thousands like him. He volunteered, so I guess you could argue he knew what he was getting into.

Can't quite understand why anyone should get het up about what fb were sued for?

Sateeb. Yeah, I enjoyed Life on Mars, but my thoughts are based on working with and latterly 'managing' seconded Police, as well as some that had retired, or some younger that simply quit, over a period of 30 years plus.

Oh come on now, we are talking about employees being taken on to check for illegal content, it can’t be that much of a surprise that they are going to see some pretty nasty stuff. Nobody is saying it won’t affect them, but it certainly shouldn’t be a surprise. As for the police, as part of their training they will be made well aware that during the course of employment they will see many things they may find abhorrent, whether that be road traffic victims, victims of crime or the content of computer images. It has nothing to do with employment law and level of care, it’s a fact of reality.

I don't think you understand the level of depravity and the damage that having to view that day after day can cause. Nor the rules governing the forensic examination of computers to ensure that evidence isn't tainted, from seizure, right through to examination. And yes, the Police will be trained to deal with such scenarios. But those who have to undertake such work to gather evidence from a computer, will in addition, receive extra training and care.

We simply have no idea what training was provided to FB staff, if any, but the fact FB lost suggests they weren't adhering to the regs.

My staff, trained in computer forensics, weren't really expected to view such material as a matter of course, but we had more than one situation of 'inappropriate' material doing the rounds where I worked and whilst some was very funny (I could hear them sniggering and I saw print outs), on more than one occasion, they would jump back from the screen, because of what had appeared in front of them. It was important they were aware of how such material could cause them harm and how to manage that.

Please report accurately, FB didn't lose any court case, they agreed out of court to pay damages and a judge is expected to sign off on the deal. I guess $52US is chump change to Zuckerberg.

Okay, they knew they were on a hiding to nothing and settled out of court.

I know its Twitter, but still social media and in the same digital waste bucket...

Looks like the high profile Twitter hack that hit a number of the rich and famous (Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Kanye West, Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather, Apple, Uber ...) yesterday was an inside job ...

What social media has mostly achieved is giving inexperienced little toerags a loud voice on everything. From BLM protests to... the rights of people who wish to be identified as a mushroom.

People who like embarrassing or angering others find social media more addictive, study says
Large swaths of the internet are a cesspool. Before today, this led to glum assessments about the state of humanity. But a new study out of Michigan State University and California State University at Fullerton, says not so fast: The heaviest users of social media have personalities that enjoy angering and embarrassing others. This is good news! It means that humanity, on the whole, might suck far less than people on the internet.

Maybe this doesnt belong on this thread but....

How do you make a post to selected groups only?
I cant seem to see how to do that
I don't want to make a post to all of FB, just to some of my groups
when I try and do this it give me like a pro forma to fill in like I'm selling or renting a house
I just want to make an announcement that I'm looking for a house of a certain type
I've seen others do it but I cant figure it out
thanks in advance to FBers out there
