Hi I have a flight booked to arrive in BKK on Monday afternoon. I was told by the travel agent that the protest was going to be over by 6pm local time on Thursday. However I can see no report of this anywhere, so maybe they are trying to stay optimistic.

The travel agent did say they would give a full refund or the possibility of alternative date to travel within the next 7 days….

I have to leave from Venice on Friday night and have a stop over in London before my flight on Sunday. In your opinion do any of you think the airport will be open by Monday? I know it is like asking you the unanswerable, it is just that I have to fly tomorrow to London and if the BKK trip is a no go then I would rather stay at home. Any advice welcome! :?

BaaBaa.

That is the part that was biased.

This article is not even trying to give any sort of credit to the PAD.

Sorry, nobody has any idea unfortunately, you really will have to wait and see.

A friend of mine should have flown today, he was unable to fly from Manchester Airport.

They will refund him if Suvarnabhumi is still closed on Saturday.

Basically your guess is as good as anybodys.

I was trying to show you why Isaan would not be PAD supporters.

PAD shouldn't be given any credit, they've embarrassed Thailand internationally and have screwed up income from Tourism for the foreseeable future.
They'd be known as terrorists in any other country for hijacking an International Airport and would have been dealt with by force.

Give the mob a huge hand.

imo i think you'll be lucky to land at BKK on monday kelly. If they go in heavy handed i can see it spilling out onto the street and at the mo it seems the forces are reluctant to do that. Nobody is standing down in the situation so they might be there for a while.
I'm supposed to be flying out next Friday and i'm doubtful i'll be going.
A possible option is flying to Singapore or KL and travelling up.

Im supposed to be flying next Friday too.

My friend who should have flown today was told by Emirates they would fly him to KL or Singapore and he would have to make his own way from there.

In my opinion, if they don’t sort this out either today or tomorrow, it could be closed for quite a while.
Many flights from Europe to Bangkok also link to other destinations and should be rerouted rather than cancelled, so if you have to get to Thailand you might be able to get in overland, or if you just want a holiday go to whichever country your flight takes you.

I'd happily put up with Kelly Rowland for a few hours if it meant I was landing in Suvarnabhumi.

In the worse case scenario I'll fly to KL and get the train. (With no Kelly Rowland  )

I honestly apologise for sounding like I was 'slating you'. I was not meaning to at all.
No need to apologise Cozza, as I pointed out above it was only the part about the medias handling of the situation that I was bringing your attention to and I’m certainly not about to take anyone’s comments on an NBC article personally!

Just my best guess based on my time living in Thailand, and the rough translation I was given of the Army Chief's press conference last night, but I would think that if the Thai parliament is not dissolved and elections called, and PAD in turn does not leave the places they currently occupy, then we will have a military coup within the next few days, and the military will use force against dissenters from both sides to get the country out of this gridlock. I think the Prime Minister has been very stupid not to resign but then again, his strings are being pulled from Dubai.

In my opinion both the PAD and all the current politicians in Parliament should be locked up, as they have all committed criminal acts. On a technical note though, the electoral problems are based on how the boundaries are drawn currently, which will virtually guarantee an election win for anyone supported by Isaan and the north because the number of MPs allocated to these areas is disproportionate to the population; of course those in power are never going to alter this, and thus we will have an impasse possibly for decades, and to a certain extent this is where the argument about the education levels and voting habits by the PAD has some merit - if voters will only vote for one party regardless of what other parties do or say, and regardless of any wrong doing by the party they vote for, then the system is broken and needs some sort of overhaul. I don't agree with PADs elitist system, but neither do I think Western-style 'democracy' works either here (or in the West for that matter!).

I think the idea of proper representation for the people is largely a myth, and virtually all political systems across the world just pander to the business and money world, with the populations mostly a distant last place. The illusion of representation is there but it is just an illusion.

Bring on the coup and let it be peaceful.

Agree with most of what Wl has posted, for those who want to know what PAD want read this:

http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/pa ... 10832.html

As also stated Thai media can only cover this partially due to the strict lese majeste laws that both sides use to attack each other with.

Both sides are rent a crowd (PPP rented the biggest crowd who elected them), both sides have and use weapons and both sides need to be disbanded before this country can move forward again.

The initial problem though stems from Thaksin who has successfully managed to divide Thais like no other in the Kindgom's history.

Family supposed to be flying in Saturday. Dad said yesterday BA were cancelling some of their Bangkok flights.
If it get sorted sometime soon but after your flight time/day, do the airline automatically put you on the next available flight, or is your flight cancelled outright and you seek compensation ?

Anyone (SteveG etc) know for sure the answer ?

Yes you are right. Neither side are democratic. The problem is that Thailand does not understand democracy in any form.

I have had this discussion with Thai people so many times I am sick of talking about it.

Anyway that is not the topic. The airports will continue to be blocked until the PM stands down or military action is taken. Let us hope for the first option.

PAD have now demonstrated that they don't give a sh*t about what other countries think of them and they will not give up until the PM is deposed. They are now shooting themselves in the foot IMO.

The Thaksin regime, on the other hand, are desperately clinging on to what may be their last position of power. I think it is unlikely that they can place a puppet in charge for a third time that will hoodwink the Thai population and PAD.

So my understanding is that until the PM stands down the airports will continue to be blocked.

PAD say that they have no problem allowing tourists to enter the country but the reality is that the airlines are not prepared to fly people to BKK. I think that Thai Airways are affected as well.

An earlier post mentioned Singapore as being an alternative. There are many others that need checking. Kuala Lumpur, Vientiane. Phnom Phen. The last two often stop at BKK first so may be flying direct at the moment.
