Ambassadors of different sports

Post by Bamboo Grove »

On seeing JW´s post about Seve, a thought came to my mind. I once had the pleasure to meet Phil Taylor in Bangkok. He played a few tournaments here in Thailand (Bangkok, Pattaya, Cha Am) and visited several bars in Bangkok, at least. One of them was our Blue Lakes. Have to say he is a real gentleman and a real ambassador for darts.
At the other end of that scales in darts (that I´ve met) is Eric Bristow. Well, I don´t really want to talk about him here as it doesn´t belong to the topic.
What do you think? Who are the ambassadors of different sports?

Ones I've met?

Jonah Barrington - squash
Nick Price - gplf
Steve Redgrave - rowing
Duncan Goodhew - swimming
Jimmy White - snooker
Mike Hailwood - Motorcycling

All nice gents socially and eager to encourage youngsters

In competitive mode - don't even bother chatting to them. They are too focused

RICHARD OF LOXLEY

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

Otherwise they wouldn´t be champs.

I'd have to go for Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson on the Rugby front. Martin was agressive on the pitch as you would expect but such was his dedication and talent for the game he is now England manager. Jonny is just 100% dedicated and focused...

On the motorcycle front I would have to go for Joey Dunlop who sadly died a few years ago competing in the North West 200 way beyond retirement...

There is only 1 man for Basketball-Michael Jordan.

Tennis would have to be both Sampras and Federer.

Muay Thai- Yodsanklai Fairtex, the guy is only 24 and its like watching a Thai Mike Tyson fight, yet he's as humble as you can be. Future Muay Thai Legend.
