Location suggestions

Post by Charlie »

Hi there,

I'm looking for a bit of advice. My partner and I are planning on retiring to Thailand after 30 years in Hong Kong and would like a house with space around it, away from noise (people, traffic etc), where we can walk a dog who loves swimming (so near a beach). We're going to start coming to Hua Hin to explore and wondered if you had any suggestions on where we should start looking.

Hi Charlie, and welcome to the forum. This is a very hard question to answer as Hua Hin has an awful lot of beach and big price variations. The best and most honest advice I could offer you is to come here and rent for a few months. This will give you time to wander around and become familiar with the area...

Look at Khao Tao...there are many developments there just minutes from the beach..also its is a nice trip into town visually with a tree lined road and ten minutes driving to town...

Was going to suggest that myself!

If you want a lot of space near the beach anywhere near Hua Hin you need very deep pockets.

Welcome to HHAD btw.

Hi Charlie,

To be honest with you the biggest question is probably money (as always). Near the beach is very pricey in HH, much cheaper 2 hours south at Bang Saphan, do you want a selection of restaurants, bars, shopping etc? If so Bang Saphan will be way too quiet. Are you planning to buy here or rent? I suggest you rent a place in HH for 6 months and have a good look, can get a very nice place for 30,000 baht pm.

First, before I get told off,I have involvement in real estate here .

The other posters are correct about prices close to the beach .If you wish a lot of space and fresh air, areas to walk the dogs with scenic backdrops you only have to drive for 5 minutes for great mountain views and lots of open space .Land is a third of the price or less than 2km closer to town and this is reflected in many of the developments but not all .Of course I would prefer you bought one of our places and paid your deposit today  but the advice to rent and look around is good advice .Have a look at nong pran puk and borfai .Both are nice areas and you will come across some others between the two .If the beach is really a necessity within walking distance you can get a 2 bed house with a small swimming pool 1.5km from the beach in prak nam pan for under 3m .

I've tried to find these 2 on the HH Area Map, but can't see them. Are they beyond those parameters, or are my eyes failing me? If the area does feature, but they're just not marked, could you please state the relevant grid reference?

Otherwise could you just give an idea of where they are eg 3 km NE of reference AA.

Thanks

BB,

More often spelt Bo Fai as on the HH area map in section D6 (Baan Bo Fai). Still way over the odds price wise IMO.

If you want land near the beach at anything like normal Thai prices you will have to go south way past Sam Roi Yot.

The Hua Hin - Khao Tao road is tree-lined, true. However, it seems to be one of the most dangerous stretches around.
People drive very fast and overtake insanely. Accidents are quite frequent. I've a friend who desperately wants to sell
his house in Khao Tao in order to be able to visit Hua Hin also in the evenings. The situation is getting worse all the time;
there's more and more traffic and the road gets more and more congested.

According to my friend there's a vast area of council housing being built in Khao Tao area intended for the less wealthy Thais.
My Opus Maximus Sceptica translates this into more sub-standard vechiles without lights on the road and more local petty crime.

But, of course, I could just be negative and not know Jack Schitt about it all.
"There's no plausible or convincing reason, certainly no evidential one, to believe that there is such an entity (= deity) and that all observable phenomena, including the cosmological ones... are explicable without the hypothesis; you don't need the assumption."

I don't know whether this is a positive or a negative regarding that road, but there are plans to widen it at some point in the future - this should make it a safer road as regards cars being able to overtake more easily, but it will very likely lead to cars driving faster as well. It will possibly make it more difficult to turn onto the road from side turnings, and may mean a set up where there will be u-turns rather than traffic lights, thus making any journey longer than it would be at the moment.
