Snow?

Post by PeteC »

Who's in London at the moment? The news is saying there was 3" of snow just outside of London last night? A bit early! Pete

Bad road conditions on the A1 near Welwyn and Stevenage, at 8PM last night.
Traffic crawling at 20 MPH.Not typical for the time of year!

I'm sure us Brits can remember bad conditions, but only because our country isn't prepared for them. East of the A1, flat country, black ice in a moment. A ditch/dyke is easy to find. Traction, none.
Are the government spending out for salt yet? Seems like they're asking for money for everything else.

Our local council will not start gritting roads until December.

The gritting of the roads was a post code lottery this morning. Driving in South Goucestershire was treacherous, whereas driving in Bath & North East Somerset was fine.

We didn't have any snow here, but about an inch of hailstones

No snow in the SW London / Surrey borders, did have to scrape the car free from a thin layer of ice though. I'm in a cold 'hot-spot' for this area, due to the proximity of a lot of open space, Richmond Park in particular.

Unusual for this time of year, admittedly, but nice to have some evidence that seasons still exist!

Richmond Park, where do you live Mr C ? If you're close to RP you are in a nice area. Roehampton, Mortlake, Barnes ?? Please don't tell me Richmond, spent a fortune every weekend just getting there and back for a drink from Feltham and Egham :cuss:

Amazing, what has happened to global warming? Perhaps you all will be ice skating on the Thames by Christmas. Pete

Then I must have imagined building snowmen in the 60s...

I remember building an igloo in January 1946 or 47.
We used to get more snowy winters in those days.
